In today’s episode I interview Ellen Shiro who is a counseling psychologist and marriage and family therapist. She has been using the model of Nonviolent Communication, known as “NVC” and developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, in her practice for over 25 years to help individuals, couples, and families. Ellen focuses on how to translate language of judging and shaming to language of mutual understanding and clear requests
I wanted to have Ellen on the show because I kept hearing well-respected thought leaders communicating in ways that I thought distorted the truth even though they had good intent. It was about the language they were using that reinforced views of ourselves as victims rather than as authors of our own lives. I kept thinking to myself if they only knew NVC it’d be so much better so I was really happy when Ellen agreed to come on the show.
