In this episode, Danielle and Donna welcome Lorraine Perrons to My Life Temple, as part of the Therapy practitioners' team. Lorraine is a Rapid Transformational Therapist®, specializing in Gambling Recovery, having lived experience of this, while been previously married to someone with this silent addiction. The consequences of him not acknowledging this addiction nor seeking help, resulted in a devastating impact on them as a family. It is estimated that a staggering 78 million people worldwide may be affected by the harms of gambling. ​​Many people gamble on occasion, but when it becomes addictive it causes problems for the gambler and their families. ​Gambling that can get out of control and cause harm is often associated with various reasons including:AnxietyDepressionPost Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – approximately 30%StressSubstance abuse Lorraine is the Mum of 2 wonderful Sons, now in their 30s and lives in the UK. During the 90’s whilst they were growing up, she discovered that her husband (they are now divorced) had a gambling addiction, that had been going on for many years, mainly at the Casino during the daytime. She had no inclination whatsoever, hence the reason it is often referred to as the ‘silent addiction’. She learnt that the only way to cope with this devastation was to face it head on. She therefore started to read about it and the often-terrible consequences and eventually began to understand about gambling harm. She has also personally experienced the fact that until recent years there has been very little support for families of the victims. The impact on families and friends is deeply profound and difficult for others to comprehend. It is the most devastating of all break ups.​A gambling addiction will only get worse when left untreated.​You can help families affected by this addiction and any individuals you know, who is looking to break free from this silent addiction.
