Episode 8 - What's Driving Me Batty? EVs and EV Batteries
Manage episode 380864089 series 3462666
Hello and welcome to the eighth episode of the Guidehouse Insights Plugged In Podcast! On this podcast we do a deep dive on emerging topics from sustainable hydrogen to distributed energy to smart lights.
This month we spoke with Mike Austin, a Senior Research Analyst on the Guidehouse Insights team about his report, "EV Batteries." Mike is on the Transportation Insights team with Edie and Jake, leading all manner of projects about EVs, EV Chargers, EV Batteries, anything with tires and a charger! Mike has worked as a content creator and editor for publications all over the automotive space, such as Hemmings Motor News, Autoblog, Popular Mechanics, and Car and Driver Magazine.
In this episode we talk EV batteries, EVs, and about the nebulous term, "supply chain". Our discussion starts with what a battery is, how batteries have changed over time, and eventually just how crazy a battery in your average electric vehicle really is. We talk about types of batteries, and how countries have started to make batteries locally, and what that means for the EV industry as a whole.
Unfortunately, this will be Edie's final episode hosting Plugged In. But, never fear, the Plugged In Podcast will continue, just like a certain battery brand.
Thank you to Guidehouse for providing us this platform of discussion. To keep up to date on larger Guidehouse Insights work, follow our industry insights blog on the website: www.guidehouseinsights.com
