2020 has been quite a year. It seems that we could run the gambit of everything and anything can happen. Those who work in education know the challenges that have presented themselves this year. But you are a teacher, and teachers can do anything. All it takes is a little motivation and focus from time-to-time. Episode #10 will discuss being a great teacher will keep students inspired in a world that’s crazy. Even if you do not hear a thank you from supervisors and others.

Being a Great Teacher
Teachers have a great challenge today. Even though you as a teacher are facing great challenges, keep the faith. You may not receive a thank you from supervisors or administrators, but we appreciate the work that you are doing. That being said we would like to remind you of why being a great teacher is important to students. Let me begin by giving you the personal experience of a younger David who did not like school. While listening to the podcast remember what it was like if you fit into this same category as a young student.

Great teachers have two things in common: an exceptional level of devotion to their students, and the drive to inspire each one to learn and succeed. I was fortunate to have many great teachers as a young student. The one teacher that comes to mind for me is Mr. Randy Stewart. Mr. Steward was my fifth-grade teacher. Being a young fifth-grade student who loved baseball and being outside, you can understand why I didn’t like school. That being said Mr. Stewart made learning fun. As you heard in the podcast, he also dedicated the time, and effort, that made me gain a love for school and learning. Let us now look at how we can work at being a great teacher.

Great Teachers Keep Students Inspired

Be sure first to take care of yourself. You will be ineffective to your students if you continually feel drained. Great teachers may never hear a thank you from supervisors or administrators. You can, however, use these tips to make sure you keep your students inspired in a world that’s crazy. First, realize teaching is a learned skill. You do not know it all, and will continually learn. Second, be truthful and trustworthy to your students. This builds trust with the student which will get to our next point. Be someone who students feel watch over them. Be a protector for those who do not have this example at home. The last point is to always be a teacher, not their friend. Respect is needed in schools, and as you heard in the podcast, it is important to be the adult in the room.
