Jack Berry has covered many milestone sports experiences including 40 Masters ... he is in Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.
I talked to him at conclusion of round 3 of the 2019 Masters and asked him what he was feeling as he was watching the days events unfold ... and his thoughts before the final round Sunday.
I've known and admired Jack Berry for 50+ years. I was a junior golfer aspiring to play on the LPGA. Never was good enough however did play in LPGA events in the 1960's as amateur as you could in those days with a 5 handicap or less.
Jack wrote about my amateur golf in the 60's. He was a mentor to me in ways he never knew as I got into writing about golf and having radio shows like my Emily T Gail Talks Golf & Other Sports on esphawaii.com for long time.
I started calling Jack for interviews and having him share his stories and knowledge of the game. I've learned so much for Jack. He still covers golf with GLSP published by my long time friend Art McCafferty. Art also publishes Michigan Runner who I credit for the popularity of our Emily Detroit Runs in the 1970'-80's. Jack used to run in the Emily Detroit Runs.
We talk about the PGA TOUR Rocket Mortgage Classic coming to Detroit end of June. Will be held at Detroit Golf Club, the only private club in the Detroit City limits. Lots of golf history there. Personal history for me as I played Junior and Women's Amateur events at Detroit golf in the 1960'-70's. Horton Smith, who was one of the first to win the Masters was the pro at Detroit Golf at the time.
