There are great things ahead for the commercial drone industry, said Samuel Flick of Germany-based Microdrones, which recently completed a successful corridor mapping mission on the Autobahn. Flick discussed the systems and commercial partnerships that made this feasible in this episode of Propelling.
The mission was a key advancement in Beyond Visual Line of Sight, or BVLOS, making it possible to use drone aircraft for extended lengths of time and distances that would not otherwise be possible in advanced corridor mapping. "Microdrones is really at the forefront of this," Flick said. "Right now in Germany we have by law a 400 meter line of sight barrier, so you have view of the drone at every time. BVLOS really unlocks the potential of the drones."
