Life Lessons from the Movies: “Something Borrowed” with Colin Egglesfield
There is a resurgence, on Netflix currently at top 8, of the 2011 romantic-comedy film Something Borrowed starring Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Colin Egglesfield.
In this episode, we are joined by Colin Egglesfield as he deep dives into the themes of the movie, its subtext and how this relates to our lives, and his journey as an actor in clinching the role. Plus, Craig S. Wilson, Melissa’s husband-author, also joins Melissa and Shevaun to provide inputs and move the conversation forward.
While talking about the script adaptation of the book by Emily Griffin and how scripts tend to veer off from the source material, Colin shares his process of landing the role—from getting a call from his agent to read for the part, then doing exactly just that, and a week after going back to read with Ginnifer Goodwin for the chemistry test, then acing the first two scenes but landed flat on the third scene.
Colin points out that as a result of writing his book, he realizes the power of art and believes that, as he states, “We are all artists”. He further adds, “the more that you can stay open-minded to experiencing new growth opportunities, it helps you live more in the moment. As Colin states, “Having gone through my cancer journey, and having lost out on so many roles that I wish I would have gotten when you put yourself out there and put yourself on the line, there’s the risk of—you may call it failing—but then there’s the opportunity for you to experience the most amazing things that life has to offer.”
