#33 Should You Learn Your Native or Ancestral Language?

If you are living in the West, should you bother to learn your mother tongue or ancestral language? If you are a second-generation immigrant then should you learn the language of your ancestors? In this podcast, I argue that you should do so for a number of reasons. Firstly, a lot of people understand a language but cannot speak it. Therefore, they cannot transmit the language or teach it. This, in effect, is a sign that the language is being cut off from future generations. Why should you care? If you are interested in Dawah and changing culture in a positive way towards Islam, then you are putting yourself at a significant disadvantage by losing the means to meaningfully connect with a large population of not just people, but likely your extended family.
