This month’s online presentation features Donna Miscolta, Catalina Marie Cantú, and Claudia Castro Luna.Donna Miscolta’s third book of fiction is Living Color: Angie Rubio Stories, about lessons a young Mexican American girl learns in a world that favors neither her race nor gender, released from Jaded Ibis Press in September 2020. Her story collection Hola and Goodbye, winner of the Doris Bakwin Award for Writing by a Woman and published by Carolina Wren Press (2016), won an Independent Publishers award for Best Regional Fiction and an International Latino Book Award for Best Latino Focused Fiction. She’s also the author of the novel When the de la Cruz Family Danced from Signal 8 Press (2011), which poet Rick Barot called “intricate, tender, and elegantly written – a necessary novel for our times.”Catalina Marie Cantú is a multi-genre writer, interdisciplinary artist, Jack Straw Fellow, and VONA Voices Alum. Her writing has been published in La Bloga, Poetry on Buses, Seattle Poetic Grid, Raven Chronicles Magazine, Signs of Life/Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery magazine, The Inspired Poet Workbook, Pictures of Poets, and Take a Stand Art Against Hate: A Raven Chronicles Anthology. Catalina holds a B.A. in La Raza Studies and a J.D. from the University of Washington, where she was a co-founding member of MEChA and Teatro del Piojo. As a volunteer attorney, she managed the King County Bar Association Bilingual Spanish Legal Clinic. She is a co-founding member and current President of La Sala Artists’ Network. Catalina is currently finishing her braided essay collection and her first YA novel.Claudia Castro Luna is Washington State Poet Laureate (2018 – 2021) and served as Seattle’s first Civic Poet (2015-2017). She is the recipient of an Academy of American Poets, Poets Laureate Fellowship, the author of Killing Marías, finalist for the WA State Book Award 2018, One River, A Thousand Voices and the chapbook This City. Born in El Salvador she came to the United States in 1981. Her non-fiction has appeared in YES! Magazine, the anthologies This is the Place (Seal Press) and Vanishing Points: Contemporary Salvadoran Narrative (Kalina Eds).Between the author readings, open mic time is available for three minutes per person. "Sign-up" is available before the start of the event.Ability to use Zoom on your own computer or phone is required for this program.This reading will be recorded and available for future viewing on the It's About Time Writers' Reading Series YouTube channel.
