In this episode of Off the Boards, host Christian Fowler and founder Brooks Hansen spoke with Opendorse program director Chris Kutz about name, image and likeness (NIL).

So, what is Opendorse and how do they fit into the puzzle?

"Opendorse provides technology to the athlete endorsement industry. We serve the full lifecycle of supporting athletes: educating, assessing, planning, sharing, creating, measuring, tracking, disclosing, regulating, listing, browsing, booking, and more.

Our industry-leading products – Opendorse Ready, Social, Monitor, and Deals – help athletes and their supporters understand, build, protect, and monetize their brand value."

Recently, NIL has become a massive topic surrounding collegiate sports, and Kutz discussed at-length how it could affect the University of Memphis. Kutz said Memphis has one of the greatest examples in sports history when it comes to branding in head basketball coach Penny Hardaway.

Kutz explains how Hardaway branded himself at a young age and how he is a perfect example for players to look at. Throughout the podcast, Kutz also breaks down how NIL will affect the entire landscape of college sports and recruiting.

Last week, the Tennessee House of Representatives passed a bill allowing student-athletes to use their name, image and likeness for payments, and the bill will now move along to the Senate.
