CW: Suicidal ideation, gun violence and addressing anti-Asian hate
On this episode of the To Be Honest Podcast, we continue our conversation with Alex Spielmann (they/he) who is an 18 year old queer and trans Asian American from the Bay Area. Alex uses spoken word to express their frustration with the systems of oppression that affect them and many other people. They are studying Sociology at De Anza College, and are hoping to become a teacher in order to make a difference in the lives of other young people who have experienced similar trauma to themself.

Alex has struggled with their mental health for the majority of their lifetime and knows firsthand the difficulties that can come with seeking help and support. In Part 2 of our conversation, we discuss self-care strategies, their experience with drag, how COVID has impacted their mental health and celebrating our differences.
Thank you for listening to the To Be Honest podcast! We hope to be an open platform to youth and young adults across the Bay Area who would like to talk about their experience(s) with mental health and substance use.
