РЕКЛАМА
"The basic premise of the event is that hunters hunt rattlesnakes from the surrounding environment all across West Texas, and bring them into the roundup for the weekend. And during the roundup, these snakes are kept in a pit and then, one by one, beheaded and skinned in front of in front of audiences." - Elizabeth MeLampy Elizabeth MeLampy is a lawyer dedicated to animal rights and protection, and her passion for this work shines through in her latest book, Forget the Camel, the Madcap World of Animal Festivals and What They Say About Being Human . To research the book, Elizabeth traveled across the country, immersing herself in a wide range of animal festivals — from the Iditarod dog sled race to the rattlesnake roundup in Sweetwater, Texas. Elizabeth examines these festivals as revealing microcosms of our broader relationship with animals. Whether it's rattlesnake hunts, frog-jumping contests, ostrich races, or groundhog celebrations, these events reflect the ways humans use animals to express cultural identity, community pride, and historical traditions. Yet beneath the pageantry and excitement lies a deeper question: Is our fascination with these spectacles worth the toll it takes on the animals involved? With compassion and insight, Elizabeth invites readers to consider whether there’s a more ethical and empathetic way to honor our stories — one that respects both animals and the traditions they inspire. Please listen, share and read, Forget the Camel. It will be released on April 8th, 2025. https://apollopublishers.com/index.php/forget-the-camel/…

Phil Pinti is about 18 days out from toeing the start line of the Arizona Monster 300!! Once the gun goes off, he will have a week to take on this insanely long adventure that traverses the deserts of southern Arizona. This will be it's inaugaral year and is organized by the awesome Candice Burt and Destination Trails. In this episode, we talk about his mindset a month out and his training up until this point before being joined by Randy Stephenson, Phil's crew chief for this event. We also talk about the absolutely beautiful Route 66 Ultra put on by Heather and Marshall Ulrich, which is a race I HIGHLY recommend people check out! (My experience wasn't as beautiful but that had nothing to do with this amazing community of runners and the beautiful event they put on!) Other possible titles for this episode: "What's a Macho Man....without a Randy" "From Route 66 to Badwater, Randall Stephenson...the Man for the Job" "I'm Afraid"- Philly…

This week’s episode is a special one! We are sitting down and talking to the director of the AZT bikepacking race John Schilling!! The first half of the show is more of a normal Like a Bigfoot Podcast as we dive into John’s history with bikepacking and designing amazing routes (like the Queen’s Ransom ride). In the second half of the show, co-host Thomas Mullins picks John’s brain for info about sections of the Arizona Trail that Thomas will be tackling on foot in April during Destination Trail’s Arizona Monster 300!! ….yes that’s right…300 miles of trail running through southern Arizona. It is the first year for the event and is looking to be beyond epic! Thomas and our friend Phil Pinti are both taking on this challenge, so there will be more episodes about this event coming up over the next few months. Enjoy!!…

This week we are chatting with Cyclist Steve Herschberger! Welcome to 2025 and to the new season of the Like a Bigfoot Podcast!! This week's episode is a very open discussion about a healthy mindset, the obstacles we face, and how to recover from trauma (both physical and emotional). Steve Herschberger is an extremely accomplished cyclist- having raced all over the world. A year ago he was hit by a driver in a hit and run, breaking half of his ribs, his collarbone, spine and neck. This episode is all about the comeback. What it takes to recover from some serious hard times life throws at you! Hope you all learn from and enjoy the conversation as much as I did!! HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!!! In honor of the shortest day of the year and the coldest season of the year, we are releasing two conversations with one of the coolest (literally) guys I've met, Ryan Wanless!! The first half is a conversation after Ryan survived the coldest Arrowhead 135 and the second half is years later after he completed the 1,000 mile Iditarod on foot!! Enjoy the episode!! Happy Holidays!!…
This week’s BIGFOOT REPLAY is with adventurer, polar explorer, environmentalist, Minnesotan, and wonderfully nice guy Paul Schurke!! Paul is a legend in the adventure world- completing multiple expeditions to the North Pole (including an unsupported trip in the 80s), dogsledding across Siberia (to convince the US and Soviet Union to open the Bering Strait to help out Inuit families), following in the footsteps of Teddy Roosevelt’s River of Doubt expedition in the Amazon, crossing South Georgia Island by the same route as Ernest Shackleton, and so much more.…
This week we are revisiting a conversation from 2019 with ultrarunning's absolute phenom Courtney Dauwalter!!

"That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run." - Forrest Gump I'm extremely excited to welcome Rob Pope, the real life Forrest Gump, to this week's show! Over the last few years, Rob has taken on the EPIC challenge of recreating Forrest Gump's famous run. Over 15,000 miles across the United States 5 times, he tested the limits of his own endurance and experienced the U.S. to the absolute fullest. Over his year and a half adventure he experienced highs and lows, received major support from strangers along the way, and ran through some of the most iconic places in the country. The human connections he made, along with the places he explored were life changing. Completing the challenge was absolutely unprecedented. Today's episode is all about this INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE. Rob shares how one of his last conversations with his mother about "Doing one thing that makes a difference in this world" inspired this challenge. He also chats about the adventures he had along the way, along with the obstacles he had to overcome (including a torn quadricep..yikes!). We also talk a lot about one of my favorite subjects....Tom Hanks! Please check out Rob's website. He would love your help supporting two excellent charities- Peace Direct and World Wildlife Fund. Enjoy!!
