Welcome to 2024! Scotty kicks off the new year by talking to horror and crime-fiction author Derik Cavignano. The two discuss Derik's upbringing in Boston, his early influences, and how the city's legendary history of organized crime impacted his writing. They touch on Derik's recent short story "Temple of the Righteous Harvest" (available in the 2023 "Monstorm" charity anthology from Madness Heart Press), touch on his earlier novels "The Righteous and the Wicked" (2014) and "Colony of the Lost" (2015), and do a deep dive into his award-winning horror/thriller "The Art of Dying" (2019). They talk about the gray area between writing "horror" and "thriller" fiction, and talk briefly about David Fincher's 1995 classic film "Se7en."
