“If we march into that village and we start trying to persecute people for using poison, something that's very illegal, nobody's going to talk to us. We're not going to find out where the poison came from. We're not going to be able to shut anything down. We should take the approach that people are using poison because they're desperate, because they see no other alternative.” – Andrew Stein Andrew Stein is a wildlife ecologist who spent the past 25 years studying human carnivore conflict from African wild dogs and lions in Kenya and Botswana to leopards and hyenas in Namibia. Federal prosecutors are urging a judge not to grant Sean "Diddy" Combs bail, accusing the music mogul of witness tampering and attempting to influence potential jurors from his cell in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, faces serious charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution.
In a motion filed Friday, prosecutors emphasized that Combs has made relentless efforts to contact witnesses, including some of his alleged victims. They claim that Combs has gone to great lengths to manipulate the judicial process, using unauthorized communication methods and involving his children to gain sympathy from the public.
"Despite being in jail, the defendant has managed to communicate with multiple individuals he should not have contacted," prosecutors wrote. "These efforts include using PAC numbers belonging to other inmates and making three-way calls to reach out to individuals, including his sons and other key witnesses."
One of the most concerning allegations involves Combs’ use of a third-party communication service, ContactMeASAP, which allowed him to bypass standard jail communication protocols. Details of specific calls remain redacted, but prosecutors referenced a phone call between Combs and one of his sons in October. While the contents of that call are not fully disclosed, authorities suggest it implies a strategy to silence or manipulate victims and witnesses.
According to the prosecutors, the call "provides the clear inference that the defendant’s goal is to blackmail victims and witnesses either into silence or providing testimony helpful to his defense."
Combs has also allegedly tried to sway public perception of his case. Prosecutors highlighted an incident in which Combs' son, Justin, posted a video on Instagram of the family singing happy birthday to the jailed music mogul. Combs, who turned 55 on Nov. 4, allegedly monitored the video’s analytics from jail, instructing his family on how to maximize its impact. "The defendant discussed ways to ensure that the video had his desired effect on potential jury members in this case," prosecutors claimed.
Combs' legal team has pushed back, arguing that the accusations are overblown. They insist that the charges are not as strong as prosecutors claim and that certain incidents, like a 2016 video showing him allegedly assaulting a woman in a Los Angeles hotel, have been misconstrued. “The video is not evidence of a coerced 'freak off,' but rather a minutes-long glimpse into a complex but decade-long consensual relationship between Mr. Combs and Victim 1,” the defense countered in a Nov. 8 filing.
Seeking another shot at bail, Combs' attorneys have proposed stringent release conditions. The defense suggested home detention, 24/7 security monitoring, and severe restrictions on his ability to communicate with anyone besides his legal team. They maintain that the current pre-trial detention is excessive, given the circumstances.
Combs' next opportunity to argue for bail comes as his case moves closer to trial, currently set for May 2025. As he continues to plead not guilty, the defense and prosecution remain locked in a battle over the mogul's conduct behind bars and the strength of the case against him.

1 Colorado Man Impersonated Wife’s Ex to Stalk and Murder Her During Divorce Process, Authorities Say 14:30
Colorado Man Impersonated Wife’s Ex to Stalk and Murder Her During Divorce Process, Authorities Say A Colorado man is facing trial after allegedly stalking and ultimately murdering his wife during their divorce proceedings, authorities revealed. Daniel Krug, 44, is accused of posing as his wife’s ex-boyfriend and sending her threatening texts for months before fatally beating and stabbing her in December 2023. Kristil Krug, 43, was found in the garage of her home on December 14, 2023, with signs of a brutal attack. Prosecutors presented evidence in court, including a digital trail of messages that linked Daniel Krug to the crime. The texts, sent from an account posing as Kristil’s ex-boyfriend, caused the victim to fear she was being stalked. Kristil had reported the harassment to authorities in October 2023, stating that the sender knew intimate details of her life, including where she and her husband worked, and had sent creepy photos of her car and her husband. Kristil had been planning to divorce Daniel, accusing him of being “sometimes rough with the kids,” and had confided in her mother about her plans to leave him. The texts escalated to disturbing messages, including one that read, “I’ll get rid of him and then we can be together.” Investigators eventually traced the messages to Daniel Krug after linking the IP address to his workplace and discovering that he had purchased a burner phone with a gift card registered to his name. Furthermore, security cameras at the couple’s home were tampered with—lenses covered with tape and a Ring camera turned off—leading police to question Daniel’s role in the crime. Two days after Kristil’s body was discovered, Daniel Krug was arrested on charges of first-degree murder, stalking, and criminal impersonation. Police also ruled out her ex-boyfriend as a suspect after finding him in Utah at the time of the murder. During the investigation, Daniel reportedly called the police to perform a welfare check on Kristil, claiming she hadn’t responded to his messages. However, evidence suggested that he had been sending texts from her phone after her death, further implicating him in the crime. In his defense, Daniel’s attorney questioned the investigation, claiming flaws in the handling of evidence, including the failure to test Kristil’s phone for fingerprints. However, prosecutors argued that Daniel attempted to deflect blame onto the ex-boyfriend, despite his proven alibi. Daniel Krug’s trial is expected to continue until April 18. In a dramatic turn during the Lori Vallow Daybell trial, Alex Cox — Lori’s own brother — becomes the unintentional star witness from beyond the grave. In this gripping episode, Tony Brueski is joined by retired FBI Behavioral Analysis Chief Robin Dreeke to unpack the explosive testimony, recordings, and courtroom strategies that show Lori's inner circle is rapidly unraveling — and turning against her. As the prosecution lays out its case of conspiracy to murder Charles Vallow , it’s clear that Lori’s bizarre courtroom behavior and cross-examination tactics aren’t helping her defense. But it’s her brother’s past statements and involvement that are painting a far more damaging picture — one that prosecutors say ties Lori directly to the motive, means, and manipulation behind the crime. Dreeke brings his expertise to examine how narcissism, spiritual delusions, and familial loyalty collide in a courtroom charged with emotion and tension. This is a must-listen for anyone following the Lori Vallow Daybell case , true crime legal strategy , or the psychology behind family conspiracies and cult-like belief systems . Don’t miss this breakdown of the moment Lori's defense may have completely collapsed — and it was her own brother who delivered the blow. Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? Is ANYONE A Reliable Witness In The Karen Read Trial? Defense Attorney Bob Motta Weighs In Did John O’Keefe really die from being hit by a car—or is that just the easiest story to sell? Tony Brueski and Defense Attorney Bob Motta aren’t holding back in this deep dive into the latest twists in the Karen Read case. With damning new evidence and a defense strategy that’s walking a tightrope over a pit of conflicting statements, the big question is: will Karen Read take the stand to tell her side—or will silence speak louder? The episode dissects the fragile timeline, inconsistent witness accounts, and the defense’s risky third-party blame game. Motta unpacks why the science—like the injuries to John O'Keefe and the damage (or lack thereof) to Read’s SUV—might be the only reliable witness left. Everyone was drunk. No one remembers. And the truth may have been lost in that blizzard of booze and bad decisions. Could the defense's own narrative open the door to more incriminating testimony? And what happens if the only person who claims John walked into that house never says it under oath? #KarenRead #JohnOKeefe #TrueCrimePodcast #HiddenKillers #DefenseDiaries #ReasonableDoubt #CrimeSceneMystery Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? How & Why Did Karen Read Think John O'Keefe 'Wasn't Mortally Wounded' When She Drove Away? What really happened that night—was it a tragic accident or something far more calculated? Karen Read's shifting stories and foggy memories make it hard to pin down the truth. One minute she’s unsure if she even hit him, the next she’s got vivid recollections involving loud U2 music and emotional play-by-plays. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins Tony Brueski to dig into the inconsistencies and psychological clues that may reveal what’s really going on in her mind. We’re talking memory blackouts, the bizarre Dateline clip, and whether someone can genuinely convince themselves of a false reality. And what’s the deal with her relationship with John O’Keefe? Why do empathetic people seem to end up with partners who bulldoze holidays and flip out over innocent conversations? In this captivating episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, we're breaking down the latest developments in the Bryan Kohberger case, exploring critical pretrial decisions that will shape the murder trial ahead. From Amazon purchase histories and emotional 911 call recordings to testimony from surviving roommates and even peculiar details like bushy eyebrows, the court's recent evidentiary rulings are setting crucial boundaries. Former prosecutor and defense attorney Eric Faddis joins us to dissect exactly how these decisions could influence the outcome and explains why the admissibility of each piece of evidence could be pivotal. Diving deeper, Tony and Eric unpack why the defense is aggressively challenging specific terms and evidence. What's behind the courtroom battle over using words like "murder," "psychopath," and "sociopath"? Eric reveals the strategy behind excluding emotionally charged language and discusses the legal rationale for allowing the jury to hear the chilling 911 call from surviving roommates under the "excited utterance" hearsay exception. We also discuss the significance of touch DNA found on the knife sheath, a pivotal yet controversial piece of evidence the defense desperately seeks to minimize. Finally, we explore Kohberger's shaky alibi—stargazing on a cloudy night—and what it means for his defense. Will Kohberger himself have to testify to establish this alibi, potentially opening a Pandora’s box of risk for the defense? Tony and Eric weigh the pros and cons of Kohberger taking the stand and discuss whether the defense's strategies so far have done enough to create reasonable doubt. Don't miss this detailed analysis of how pretrial rulings could determine the trajectory of one of the year's most closely watched death penalty cases. Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? 1 Will Lori's Vallow Daybell's Choice To Rest Her Own Defense Result In A New Conviction, Attorney Eric Faddis Talks 25:29
Will Lori's Vallow Daybell's Choice To Rest Her Own Defense Result In A New Conviction, Attorney Eric Faddis Talks What kind of defendant stares down a murder trial and simply says, “Nah, I’m good”? Lori Vallow Daybell, in true Lori fashion, closed her defense with a theatrical nothing . No witnesses, no argument, no Nephi-fueled sermon from the stand—just a mic drop and a courtroom scratching their heads. Was it confidence? Delusion? Or just someone finally too tired to spin the celestial wheel one more time? Former felony prosecutor Eric Faddis joins Tony Brueski to unravel Lori’s courtroom curveball, dig into what the prosecution didn’t quite prove, and question whether her silence was strategy or surrender. Between coded religious lingo, the ghost of Charles Vallow, and the judge playing a game of legal training wheels, this episode peels back the chaos behind the calm. Could this bizarre courtroom silence actually give her a shot at walking free? #LoriVallowDaybell #TrueCrimePodcast #CourtroomDrama #NephiDefense #MurderTrial #EricFaddis #HiddenKillers Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? 1 'I've Never Seen Anything Like This, Richard Allen Is Innocent' Ret FBI Behavioral Analysis Chief On Delphi Murder 'Confessions' 51:50
In what may be the most powerful statement yet in the Delphi murders case , retired FBI Behavioral Analysis Chief Robin Dreeke joins Tony Brueski to declare: “Richard Allen is innocent.” With exclusive insight and expert analysis, Dreeke examines the deeply troubling jailhouse “confessions” made by Allen — confessions riddled with confusion, contradictions, and clear signs of psychotic break and mental collapse . This episode pulls no punches. Dreeke dismantles the prosecution's reliance on Allen’s recorded calls, exploring how extreme isolation, overmedication, and psychological pressure can lead to false confessions . He explains why Allen’s statements — including claims he killed people who never existed — should never be considered credible evidence in any trial. As the public scrambles to understand what’s happening behind closed doors in Delphi, Dreeke brings clarity from decades of experience inside the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Program. If you’re following the Delphi case , researching Richard Allen , or questioning the criminal justice system’s treatment of the mentally ill, this is essential listening . Uncover the truth behind the viral headlines — and find out why one of the FBI’s top minds says we may be witnessing a tragic miscarriage of justice in real time. Karen Read Trial: A Dog Named Chloe and a Video in the Garage The judge just opened the door to some of the defense’s wildest claims — and shut it hard on others. With the Karen Read trial finally set to start Tuesday, Judge Beverly J. Cannone delivered a rapid-fire series of rulings that give us a sneak peek into what jurors will — and won’t — hear once the courtroom doors swing open. And yeah, if you’ve been following this case, some of these decisions are kind of a big deal. Let’s start with the defense’s theory. They’ve been loud and clear from the start: Karen Read didn’t kill Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, her boyfriend. Instead, they’ve said she’s the fall girl in a much bigger cover-up — one involving other people at the house where O’Keefe’s body was found... and possibly a German Shepherd named Chloe. No, seriously. Chloe the dog is part of this. O’Keefe was found dead in the snow outside 34 Fairview Road in Canton after a night out in January 2022. Prosecutors say Read hit him with her Lexus SUV, drove off, and left him to freeze to death. They’ve charged her with second-degree murder, motor vehicle manslaughter while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of an accident that caused death. But the defense says O’Keefe was already hurt or killed inside the house — and then dumped in the snow to make it look like a hit-and-run. And they’ve pointed to Chloe the dog as a possible source of some of the injuries on O’Keefe’s body. Judge Cannone’s latest rulings address how far both sides can go with this theory in court. First, the Chloe angle. The prosecution had an expert, Dr. James Crosby, lined up to say that a dog couldn’t have caused the injuries found on O’Keefe’s arm. But Cannone said hold up — Crosby can testify about dog anatomy, even Chloe’s specific jaw structure and measurements, but he can’t outright say Chloe’s off the hook. That leaves the door open just enough for the defense to argue their theory, while still limiting how far the prosecution can shut it down. Then there's the garage video. The defense claims there’s footage from the Canton Police Department’s sallyport — basically a secured garage — that could show a State Police trooper tampering with Read’s SUV. They believe someone might’ve messed with the taillight to make it look like the vehicle had been involved in the crash that allegedly killed O’Keefe. Cannone’s ruling? The defense can bring in an expert to extract a forensically sound copy of that one specific video file. But they can’t go on a fishing expedition through the entire Canton Police Department’s detective file. So they’ll get their footage — and if that video shows anything sketchy, it could become a cornerstone of their argument. Also getting the green light: defense expert Garrett Wing. Cannone said Wing’s got enough experience to offer useful input on certain disputed issues — though she didn’t spell out which ones. Still, it’s another tool for the defense to try to chip away at the prosecution’s version of events. On the flip side, the judge laid down some hard deadlines for the defense. By 5 p.m. Friday, they have to hand over all their evidence related to two experts from a forensic firm called ARCCA — the same firm that testified during the previous trial, which ended in a mistrial. And this time, they have to say if these experts are getting paid — something they conveniently left out last time around. They’ve also got until Monday to disclose any testing the experts have done, are doing, or are even thinking about doing. In short, the judge isn’t letting the defense surprise anyone in the middle of trial. Play your cards now, or don’t play them at all. So, as the courtroom preps for opening statements, here’s what we know: the jury will hear about Chloe. They’ll see the garage video — if it shows anything. And the defense will have a little more room to make their case about a cover-up. But Cannone’s keeping the reins tight. This trial is going to be a showdown. #KarenReadTrial #JohnOKeefe #TrueCrimePodcast #JusticeOrCoverup Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The Menendez Brothers’ Freedom Fight Hits Another Wall—And This One’s Personal New Twist in the Menendez Case: Inside the Fight Over Resentencing The judge called it “stupid.” And honestly, that might be the most accurate legal description anyone’s used in this decades-long saga. Erik and Lyle Menendez, who’ve been in prison for the past 29 years for killing their parents, just had their shot at a new sentencing delayed yet again—this time because no one could agree on whether they’re allowed to look at a report they already have. Let’s rewind. In 1989, the Menendez brothers walked into their parents’ Beverly Hills mansion and shot Jose and Kitty Menendez to death. It was brutal. No question. But what came next split the country. The prosecution said it was a cold-blooded, calculated murder for inheritance. The defense said it was self-defense after a lifetime of sexual abuse at the hands of their father. The jury went with the prosecution, and in 1996, both brothers were sentenced to life without parole. Now, decades later, the conversation shifted. The state of California, under Governor Gavin Newsom’s guidance, has been looking more closely at long-term sentences, rehabilitation, and second chances. That’s where the Menendez brothers come back into focus. Former LA DA George Gascón—before getting pushed out—had asked for their sentences to be reconsidered, recommending they get 50 years with the possibility of parole. But Mark Geragos, the brothers’ longtime attorney, is swinging for the fences. He’s now asking for a reduction to manslaughter. If the judge agrees, that would mean Erik and Lyle walk out of prison immediately. But first, everyone needs to agree on how to handle a risk assessment report ordered by the governor’s office. You’d think that would be straightforward. It is not. The prosecution claims they need more time because only part of the report has been released. The defense hasn’t seen the full thing either. The judge, Michael Jesic, hadn’t seen it either. And he was clearly done with the nonsense. "I need clarification from the governor’s office,” Jesic said in court Thursday. “This is stupid.” Still, prosecutors insisted that the parts they have seen are enough to put the whole thing on pause. They filed a motion to delay so everyone could review what they call a crucial piece of the puzzle: how dangerous the brothers might be if released. According to Deputy DA Habib Balian, if a report exists that evaluates their potential for violence, it has to be considered. On the other side, Geragos went scorched earth. He slammed DA Nathan Hochman for holding a press conference where he referenced the report. Geragos now wants Hochman off the case altogether, saying he’s compromised the process. Hochman, for what it’s worth, has made it clear he does not support resentencing. So yeah—tensions are high. The governor’s office later clarified that the risk assessment wasn’t meant to stand alone—it’s part of a broader review ahead of a June parole hearing. They also said that both the defense and prosecution already had access to what’s been shared. And, they noted, they’re happy to send it to the judge if he wants it. In the meantime, the brothers sat quietly, watching the hearing on a video feed from their prison near San Diego. Dressed in blue, emotionless, probably wondering what fresh bureaucratic hell they were now trapped in. This whole thing has been a stop-and-start process. The original resentencing hearing was set for January, but got postponed because of wildfires in LA and a last-minute attempt by prosecutors to pull back on their own request. This latest delay pushes things again, with the next court date now scheduled for May 9. Outside the courtroom, interest in the case hasn’t faded. Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” and a follow-up docuseries reignited public fascination. Journalists flooded the courthouse. Reporters elbowed for spots inside. It’s the same media frenzy that’s followed this case for decades. Inside, things got messy—again. Geragos and Bryan Freedman, an attorney representing Menendez relatives, blasted prosecutors for showing graphic crime scene photos in a prior hearing without warning the family. Freedman called it “harassment.” Balian apologized, but added that Erik and Lyle were the ones who caused the scene in those photos—not him. Another point of contention? The DA’s office now controls the victims’ services branch of the court. Geragos and Freedman say they’ve heard crickets from them. No contact. No coordination. Not even a heads-up. It’s worth noting that nearly all surviving members of the Menendez family have publicly forgiven the brothers. They want them released. They believe in their rehabilitation. Prosecutors, however, say the brothers have never come clean. They point to lies told at trial—about the abuse, about what really happened that night—and say the Menendez brothers haven’t taken full responsibility. Hochman’s office has openly said they don’t believe the abuse happened at all. So where does this leave everything? On pause. Again. The next hearing’s set for May 9, assuming someone can get the right version of the report to the judge and everyone decides to read the same set of pages this time. #MenendezBrothers #ResentencingDrama #TrueCrimePodcast #JusticeSystemChaos Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Will Karen Read's Tone-Deaf Public Interviews & Statements Send Her To Prison? What happens when your star witness is also your biggest liability? As the Karen Read retrial looms, Tony Brueski and former felony prosecutor Eric Faddis break down the chaos bubbling just beneath the surface—where missing jurors, Easter dinner assassinations, and rogue troopers threaten to unravel the whole thing before opening statements even begin. They dive into the ongoing headache that is Trooper Proctor (now unemployed, but still problematic), the potentially disastrous plan to introduce O'Keefe’s breakup texts, and a confusing tech showdown over timestamps that may or may not prove anything at all. Plus, Karen Read’s conflicting public statements are stacking up faster than Franzia refills at Bernice’s house—statements the prosecution might try to use without her ever taking the stand. But with such a messy trail of contradictions, will any of it actually stick? And seriously—can the prosecution win this round without confusing the jury into a mistrial? #KarenRead #TrueCrimeToday #HiddenKillersPodcast #EricFaddis #JohnOKeefe #ProctorProblem #LegalDrama Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? Did The State Really Prove That Lori Vallow Daybell Conspired To Take Out Charles Vallow? Did Lori Vallow Daybell really believe her ex-husband was possessed by a zombie named Ned, or was it all just part of a twisted scheme to cash in and move on? In this episode, Tony Brueski and former felony prosecutor Eric Faddis dig into the chilling courtroom strategies, eyebrow-raising insurance money moves, and the complete absence of character witnesses for the woman accused of orchestrating a deadly plot. They unpack Lori's eerie calm after Charles Vallow’s death, her swift attempt to claim life insurance, and how a smiling widow made enchiladas while allegedly plotting murder. With no one stepping up to defend her character and bizarre religious delusions creeping into testimony, the case raises big questions: was this about belief, greed, or something even darker? And seriously, how does someone go from “my enchiladas are a family favorite” to “my brother might have killed my husband because a demon named Ned told us to”? Should every state allow the insanity defense—or would that be giving people like Lori an easy out? #LoriVallowDaybell #TrueCrimePodcast #HiddenKillers #CharlesVallow #MurderTrial #InsanityDefense #DarkTrueCrime Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? 1 How Will A Jury Take Karen Read's Admission Of 'He Didn't Look Mortally Wounded' In New Trial, Attorney Bob Motta Talks 11:59
Could Karen Read’s own words be the thing that seals her fate? The sequel trial is heating up, and this time, the prosecution’s bringing receipts—dozens of interview clips featuring Karen Read and her, well... less-than-empathetic takes. Defense Attorney Bob Motta joins Tony Brueski to unravel how these new elements could flip the courtroom dynamics. We're talking contradictions galore—from blurry “I don’t remember” moments to crystal-clear alternate versions of events that shift like a drunk trying to explain where their phone went last night. And while none of this screams “murderer,” it definitely doesn’t scream “jury favorite” either. With Judge Canonne possibly allowing these statements if the defense points fingers again, Read could find herself caught in a trap of her own making—unless she testifies, which could unleash a whole new level of chaos. Can someone really believe in their innocence so hard they talk themselves into trouble? Or is this all part of a larger game of courtroom chess with someone else's life on the line? #KarenRead #TrueCrimeToday #HiddenKillersPodcast #BobMotta #DefenseDiaries #JohnOKeefe #MurderTrial Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? 1 Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott Breaks Down The MANY Mental Disorders At Play In Lori Vallow Daybell's Trial 13:08
Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott Breaks Down The MANY Mental Disorders At Play In Lori Vallow Daybell's Trial Is Lori Vallow Daybell really a misunderstood prophet—or just a full-blown narcissist who thinks she can out-lawyer a courtroom? In this episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski , we dive into Lori's Arizona murder trial where she's playing both defendant and defense attorney. Yes, the woman already convicted of murdering her children is now cross-examining her grieving relatives like she’s starring in her own courtroom drama. Joined by psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott, we explore Lori’s grandiosity, religious delusions, and her unsettling lack of remorse. From asking if her murdered husband was a good kisser to using Burger King as an alibi for why she wasn’t grieving, Lori’s detachment from reality is both terrifying and bizarrely theatrical. With courtroom antics that include flirty interrogations and wild gaslighting, the question isn’t just whether she did it—it's how deep the delusion goes. Is this just narcissism turned up to 11, or are we witnessing the unraveling of a self-declared goddess who believes her own fantasy? What happens when someone’s religious fervor becomes the excuse for murder? #LoriVallow #TrueCrimePodcast #PsychologicalAnalysis #CourtroomDrama #HiddenKillers #ShavaunScott #NarcissismUnmasked Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? The Menendez brothers are at the center of a high-stakes legal storm in 2025—35 years after their infamous conviction for murdering their parents, José and Kitty Menendez. In this video, we break down the latest developments from their April 17 resentencing hearing, which was unexpectedly delayed due to a last-minute dispute over a risk assessment report requested by Governor Gavin Newsom. As the brothers’ legal team pushes for a reduced sentence under California's new resentencing laws, the prosecution argues that Erik and Lyle still haven't accepted responsibility for the brutal crime. But that’s just the beginning. With a clemency review underway, a June 13 parole risk hearing scheduled, and newly discovered evidence—including Erik’s 1988 letter describing alleged abuse and a bombshell affidavit from a former Menudo member—this case is suddenly wide open. 1 Was It A Mistake For Defense To Introduce 'Autism' Into Kohberger Case, Attorney Eric Faddis Examines 12:29
Was It A Mistake For Defense To Introduce 'Autism' Into Kohberger Case, Attorney Eric Faddis Examines On this episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, Tony delves into the controversial decision by Bryan Kohberger’s defense to introduce an alleged autism diagnosis into his death penalty trial. Does claiming autism help or harm Kohberger’s defense strategy? Tony breaks down the potential implications, questioning whether the defense can substantiate this claim with actual medical evidence or if it's merely a tactic to mitigate sentencing. Could this revelation inadvertently strengthen the prosecution's case by underscoring issues with empathy and social detachment? Tony also explores the unusual scenario unfolding around Kohberger's family potentially testifying in court. With reports indicating some family members might be barred from viewing the trial until after their testimony, Tony discusses the rare and sensitive situation of family members possibly speaking against one of their own. What rights do they have, and could invoking the Fifth Amendment have unintended consequences for Kohberger's case? Tony examines the legal strategies at play and how family testimonies might sway jury perceptions. Lastly, Tony discusses the critical evidentiary decision facing the judge about admitting Kohberger’s notorious shower selfie into evidence. Originally intended to corroborate a surviving roommate's identification based on "bushy eyebrows," Tony considers whether this evidence, evocative of notorious historical figures, could significantly impact juror opinions. Tune in as Tony Brueski navigates these complex issues, breaking down legal arguments, courtroom strategies, and the psychological elements that could shape the outcome of this high-profile trial. What Will Happen In Karen Read's Trial #2, Ret FBI Coffindaffer Weighs In Did Karen Read really back into John O’Keefe, or are we about to watch another courtroom performance where the plot twists harder than a Netflix docuseries? With trial number two kicking off, things already feel different—more jurors, a new prosecutor who actually knows how to speak clearly, and a professional accident reconstructionist who won’t pass out mid-sentence. Jennifer Coffindaffer points out how the visuals will finally match the words this time around, with possible reenactments and diagrams instead of just terrified mumbling. Then there’s the arm scratches. Remember those? The ones that looked like he got into a slap fight with a raccoon? They’re now being reexamined without all the Photoshop drama. No K9 DNA, no deep wounds—just superficial marks that don’t exactly scream dog attack. Oh, and the pork DNA? That might just be from dinner. As for the defense trying to pin this on a dog named Chloe, it’s not looking great when they didn’t even want to examine the bite impressions. From Banker to Thief: Russell Laffitte Finally Admits to Murdaugh Scheme The Banker Finally Blinks After two years of pretending he just didn’t know any better, former Palmetto State Bank CEO Russell Laffitte has finally admitted what everyone else already knew: he’s a crook. In a guilty plea deal made public this week, Laffitte confessed to six criminal counts, copping to a scheme with Alex Murdaugh that laundered and stole at least $3.5 million from vulnerable clients over an 11-year stretch. That’s more than a decade of playing dumb while using his bank like a personal vending machine for fraud. But unlike previous courtroom performances, Laffitte now admits he wasn’t just “naive” or “misled.” He knew exactly what he was doing—and it was illegal. This is a major shift from the story Laffitte has been trying to sell since the walls started closing in. Back in his 2022 trial, the man spent five hours on the stand denying everything but bad judgment. He painted himself as the village idiot of banking, manipulated by Murdaugh into funneling millions out of client settlements without understanding what was going on. He even pulled the classic “not intentionally” line when asked if he’d helped Murdaugh steal. But now, in black and white, Laffitte is admitting he did help. Intentionally. Repeatedly. And he knew it was against the law. This admission changes everything—especially for the people he hurt. It also spares them from enduring a second trial that would’ve rehashed painful memories and exposed them to more cross-examinations from Laffitte’s legal team. Instead of dragging them through that again, Laffitte gets five years. It’s a cut from the seven-year sentence he was serving before his conviction was overturned on a technicality. And it’s a far cry from the nine to eleven years prosecutors were originally gunning for in their 2023 sentencing memo. That memo was brutal. Prosecutors said what made Laffitte stand out wasn’t just the crimes—plenty of people commit bank fraud—it was the audacity to lie about it over and over. They detailed how Laffitte had spun tales in a civil deposition, during a disciplinary review, at his bond hearing, and at trial. And even after a jury found him guilty, he still tried to appeal, blaming everyone but himself. But now, thanks to this plea deal, there will be no retrial, no appeals, and no last-ditch arguments about ineffective legal counsel. Laffitte has waived all of it. It’s a legal dead-end for him and a sigh of relief for prosecutors and victims alike. And let's talk about the company he kept. Laffitte wasn’t pulling these moves with some faceless fraudster—he was in business with Alex Murdaugh, arguably South Carolina’s most radioactive defendant. By the time Laffitte’s case came up for a retrial, Murdaugh was already a convicted murderer and convicted thief. The idea of facing a jury while being tied at the hip to that guy? Not a good look. In the background of all this are the stories of the people they stole from. The Plyler sisters, Hannah and Alania, had their settlement money drained. Natarsha Thomas lost $350,000. Arthur Badger, left to raise six children after his wife’s death in a crash, had over a million siphoned from his rightful settlement. Laffitte helped reroute that money through his bank into accounts he and Murdaugh controlled, like some twisted game of Monopoly where the victims always lost and the banker pocketed Boardwalk. Emails between Laffitte and Murdaugh discussing Badger’s money were described by attorney Mark Tinsley as especially damning. Which is why, Tinsley says, this guilty plea isn’t a surprise—it’s damage control. For the victims and their attorneys, this deal is about more than just prison time. It’s closure. It’s avoiding another public trial. And most importantly, it’s proof in writing that Laffitte wasn’t just a clueless banker caught in the crossfire—he was an active, informed participant in a massive fraud. Now, even as he faces civil lawsuits where he continues to deny responsibility, his federal guilty plea will hang around his neck like a cement necktie. Because no matter how many depositions he gives, the ink on that 10-page agreement doesn’t lie. Russell Laffitte may have spent years denying, deflecting, and dodging the truth. But this week, he finally ran out of exits. #AlexMurdaugh #RussellLaffitte #PalmettoStateBank #WhiteCollarCrime Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? Daybell Closing Arguments on the Way: Nephi, Luminol, and a Wedding in Hawaii The lead detective never read the Book of Mormon, but Google helped him learn that Nephi killed a man under divine orders—and somehow, that helped shape a murder investigation. As court reconvened in Lori Vallow Daybell’s Arizona trial, the state officially rested its case. The defense? Also ready to rest. No witnesses. No testimony from Lori herself. Her decision was final. With closing arguments expected Monday, the court is preparing jury instructions for what could be the final stretch. But before all that, Lori had questions. A lot of them. She stepped up to the lectern and grilled Detective Nathan Duncan like she was trying out for a legal drama. Why didn’t they test the bat for DNA? Why wasn’t Luminol used on the gun? What about the blood on Charles Vallow’s shirt? Duncan stood by the choices made—there was no visible blood, the autopsy was conclusive, and some things, he felt, just didn’t require further testing. Lori pushed: is it possible for protein to be present even if blood isn't visible? Duncan acknowledged it could be, but stuck to his reasoning. The bat—allegedly wielded by Tylee—wasn’t visibly bloody and had no damage. No blood, no Luminol. No DNA swabs either. Lori challenged him: if they had tested the bat and found Charles’ DNA, wouldn’t that corroborate Tylee’s story? The prosecution objected, the judge sustained. But Lori kept hammering the same point—why didn’t they look harder? Duncan explained that simply finding DNA on the bat wouldn’t prove much. It belonged to Tylee, lived in the house, and anyone could have handled it. As for fingerprints? Inconclusive. Still, no tests. She dug into his knowledge of the Book of Mormon too—asking about Nephi, a figure she had previously invoked. Duncan admitted he hadn’t read the book but had spoken to LDS members and done some Googling. Lori pushed again—there are four Nephis, she reminded him. She accused him of forming conclusions early and sticking to them, questioning whether his research was thorough or just conveniently limited. When asked who provided the core of the family context in his investigation, Duncan named Adam Cox—Lori’s estranged brother. Lori highlighted that he hadn’t interviewed her parents, her siblings, or even watched their interviews. Summer Cox was out of town, Duncan said. The others weren’t at the scene. Lori wasn’t buying it. She accused the investigation of being one-sided. Then there were the texts. So many texts. Messages between Lori and Chad Daybell, between Lori and Alex Cox, and between Lori and her niece, Melani. The language? Sometimes cryptic, sometimes romantic, sometimes just bizarre. Talk of "Zs"—supposedly dark spirits or zombies—and coded references to people being overtaken by evil. Melani was told not to go to Utah—it was “a setup.” Chad and Lori spoke in veiled terms about Social Security payments, forged documents, and divine missions. In the days after Charles Vallow was killed, Lori and Chad exchanged love notes, planned blessings, and fantasized about their new life together. A wedding followed just four months later, in Hawaii. The jury saw the photo: Chad and Lori, newlyweds on a beach, smiling. Meanwhile, the evidence paints a portrait of a tangled web—faith, manipulation, and a very mortal outcome. Through it all, Lori tried to flip the narrative. She emphasized how cooperative she had been with police, that she turned over Charles’ phone willingly. But Duncan said he wasn’t sure if Alex had done the same. His phone? It was never fully analyzed. The best they got were his call records from the carrier. The actual data? Gone. It was either a missed opportunity or an intentional blind spot, depending on which side of the courtroom you sit on. By late afternoon, both sides had nothing left to say. The prosecution stood by its evidence—volumes of it—arguing that Lori and Alex conspired to commit murder. Lori still insisted the state hadn’t proved its case. But the judge saw it differently: he ruled there was enough for a jury to consider. Court adjourns tomorrow to finalize instructions. On Monday, the jury returns at 10:30 a.m. for closing arguments. Then, it’s in their hands. #LoriVallowDaybell #TrueCrime #CharlesVallow #CourtroomDrama Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? In today’s episode, we break down the latest rulings that are shaping the retrial of Karen Read—and the stakes couldn’t be higher. With opening arguments underway, Judge Beverly Cannone has drawn hard lines about what evidence will be allowed in front of the jury. From forensic testimony and taillight shards to Karen Read’s own interviews, we explore what the prosecution is bringing to the table—and how the defense is allowed to respond. But the bigger question might be what the jury won’t hear—and how that silence could shift the entire trial. Key developments include the judge's decision to exclude Colin Albert as a third-party suspect, limiting the defense to only two names they can pursue—and not even allowing them to say those names during opening statements. The court also ruled that expert testimony about alleged dog bite injuries is admissible, but any mention of the German Shepherd “Chloe” is strictly off-limits. Meanwhile, controversial ARCCA crash experts are being allowed back—but under intense scrutiny due to concerns over bias and transparency. We also dive into the tightrope Judge Cannone is walking with potentially explosive evidence—like the firing of lead investigator Lt. Michael Proctor and the pending witness intimidation case involving blogger “Turtleboy.” With facts allowed in only under strict conditions, and speculation firmly blocked, this trial is becoming a masterclass in courtroom control. Join us as we unpack what the jury will—and won’t—hear in the Karen Read trial, and why those choices could be the most pivotal part of the case. Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE?
