Back in the mid-1970s, Rob's eldest brother, Kerry, set off in his 28-foot sailing boat to sail from Australia up to SE Asia. In 1978, while cruising off the coast of Cambodia, he and his crewmate were captured by the Khmer Rouge Navy, imprisoned, interrogated, and tortured, which ended with them being executed, after signing false confessions that they were CIA operatives. This tragic backstory led the family to decide to retrace Kerry's journey and document it on their YouTube channel.
