In the latest episode of Chatty con Leche we decided to settle the great British vs American English debate. Yup, we’re that powerful and influential already. To put the case for American English we asked John-Erik, Managing Editor of the Babbel Magazine - and all-round Californian good-guy - to come in and share his nuggets of wisdom. In this episode you will hear; Our lame attempts to mimic the British & American accent. An extremely masterful use of “Yassss Queen”. The most laboured use of a vinyl as a metaphor ever. So listeners, if you had to choose between British and American English (or another version of English) which one would you choose? And why? Let us know via Soundcloud, or drop us an email at chattyconleche@babbel.com we promise that there’s no wrong answer ;) If you haven’t decided then this article explaining the differences between British and American English (https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/what-are-the-differences-between-american-and-british-english?utm_source=soundcloud&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=ep_3) should help! And because we’re extra nice we’re throwing in some extra British phrases (https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/11-british-english-phrases?utm_source=soundcloud&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=ep_3) and American phrases (https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/21-totally-useful-american-english-words-and-phrases?utm_source=soundcloud&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=ep_3) too!

Chatty con Leche

Spanish and Italian, they’re basically the same language right? No no no, of course not. Still, a lot of people claim that Italians and Spaniards can chat to each other easily in their own languages without too many problems. But, is this really true? To find out just how similar Spanish & Italian are we needed to find a truly awesome Italian sparring partner for our Spanish host Cristina - and oh boy did we find one! Step forward Babbel’s own ‘Mrs* Social Media’: Alessandra. The resulting debate was full of fun, fiestas, & false friends. Enjoy! *Jk, she’s not married, the truth is that she’s extremely single. Don’t forget to send us your dad jokes, love mail, and hate mail, to the usual address chattyconleche@babbel.com OR send us a comment on Soundcloud. And what’s the best thing about languages that are similar to each other? - If you learn to see the patterns and the similarities between them, you'll have an easier time learning them! https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/tips-and-tricks-to-learn-a-language-similar-to-your-own?utm_source=soundcloud&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=ep_6…
In the latest edition of Chatty con Leche we’re going German! No, that’s not a euphemism for something rude, it’s actually because we’re talking about our favourite expressions and sayings in the German language! To help us out we’ve turned to the Babbel magazine’s in-house hero on German idioms: Gabriel Mastieri. In today’s Chatty con Leche you will hear all about; The importance of giving your mustard. The delights of the Berlin underground. The heartbreaking story of baby David’s ignorance about irregular verbs. Itching to read Gabriel’s favourite German expressions (https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/fabulous-german-expressions?utm_source=soundcloud&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=ep_4)? Go on, you know you want to! Feel free to get in touch via Soundcloud or to chattyconleche@babbel.com. We’re really friendly, honest :)…

Canada. Nothing but thousands of miles of moose, maple syrup, and extremely polite people eh? To find out if our idyllic vision of Canada was accurate or not we talked to Babbel’s own resident Canuck Julian to find out if Canadians are really as polite as they’ve led the world to believe. The resulting chat turned out to be the politest episode of Chatty con Leche yet! Get ready to hear aboooot; Double doubles. And the Canadian superpower of politeness-powered invisibility. Send us your dad jokes, love mail, and hate mail, to the usual address chattyconleche@babbel.com OR chuck us a comment on Soundcloud. We read every one you know! Want to become a little bit more Canadian yourself? (Who doesn’t eh?) In the first episode of this new series you will find out: That England is way more tropical than you think.
