The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Tampa controlled play in the first period, but was unable to get convert after getting multiple power plays. Panthers had jump to their step in the second period, resulting in two goals, both scored by Aleksander Barkov, one of them being on special teams. The Panthers got a huge kill on a double minor towards the end of the second, and although the Bolts got it to a one-goal game early in the third period, it was a tight defensive matchup that one inch could've made turned the game in a different direction, included a Lightning short handed breakaway chance by Bobrovsky and a clear at the netfront by Eetu Luostarinen shortly after the Bolts cut the deficit. The two break down the Panthers 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers to sweep the season series, where the game was tied in the middle of the third period, right before the Panthers scored the last two to get the two points behind Anton Lundell's three-point performance (1,2). The Panthers never trailed in the game and had six power play opportunities, including two in the final few minutes where the Oilers were creating a bit of a push after cutting the deficit to one and the Panthers were able to put the game away. The Cats set the tone with continuously forcing the Oilers to the outside and maintaining their speed. Florida didn't allow an even strength shot on net for the first 13 minutes of the second period, and Florida was able to remain composed after taking the lead and then immediately surrendering it. They also had another goal taken off the board at the beginning of the game due to an offside, but Carter Verhaeghe was able to still get on the board (which was ultimately the GWG) after fighting off a shot block and following it up with a goal. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez( @Mandoman12 ) brought in Jacob Winans( @JacobWinans8 ) for another edition of Winans Wednesday. The two broke down the Panthers' 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators, where it was another game in which the Panthers controlled play. Frustrations for Nashville came together in the first period where the Preds committed three penalties in the first, and five overall in the game, and the Panthers capitalized thanks to the Sam's. Bennett scored his 19th of the season on the power play, his first on the man advantage since late October. Justin Sourdif made his season debut, filling in for Eetu Luostarinen and got on the scoresheet after receiving a return feed off a give-n-go from Jesper Boqvist off the rush. Sam Bennett also had a Gordie Howe Hat trick, with answering the bell in the third period after he was called for a boarding penalty on Roman Josi in the previous period (Josi did not return), and had an assist to Mackie Samoskevich to extend their lead to four. Spencer Knight wasn't busy on the evening, but it was a full circle moment in Nashville based on where he was just a few years ago. The shot on goal differential didn't tell the whole story on how the Panthers lived in the Predators zone throughout the game, and the Cats never panicked when they gave up the one goal off the third chance opportunity. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez( @Mandoman12 ) brought in Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta ( @fjojr and @FLACatsHistory ) to the show to break down Canada's 3-2 OT win over the USA in the Four Nations Face-Off Championship. The two discuss the success of the tournament and that it gave hockey fans everything they wanted on a true best-on-best tournament. Canada at times set the pace, and did so early with a goal five minutes into the game where Nathan MacKinnon struck again. USA then would score shortly after juggling their lines, putting Auston Matthews with the Tkachuk brothers. USA then took the lead into the second period thanks to Jake Sanderson, and after a tight third period where the USA was starting to take control, they couldn't capitalize. Jordan Binnington came through in the over time period off a short side shot off a rebound by Brady Tkachuk, and then shortly after, Canada won a draw in the USA zone, where Adam Fox and Auston Matthew went to chase the puck, leaving Connor McDavid wide open in the slot, where his shot got past the glove of Connor Hellebuyck for the Golden goal. McDavid was contained for the most part, but one mistake proved costly for the Americans. Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett were the Panthers to come out victorious in the tournament, and Matthew Tkachuk tried giving it a go after getting hurt in the first matchup against Canada. Matthew Tkachuk played one shift after the nine minute mark of the third period, but couldn't finish the rest of the game. What does that mean now for when the Panthers return to action?
