Originally from the Gaza Strip, he has lost over 80 family members. 2009-2021, served on the California Democratic Party's (CDP) Executive Board and was a DNC delegate in 2016. In 2016, first Muslim and Arab American elected to political office in California's capital city, serving as the president of the Sacramento School Board. He became the national executive director of CAIR Action. His family has been involved with the Warithdeen community for over 3 decades.
