Michalis “Mikis” Theodorakis, a prolific Greek composer and leftist political activist whose musical meditations on his homeland ranged from the sun-drenched bliss of “Zorba the Greek” to brooding anthems about the country’s many upheavals and struggles, died Thursday. He was 96. The Taliban threw a parade in Afghanistan's second-largest city to show off their newly seized American-made military equipment. Days after Hurricane Ida tore through Louisiana, its remnants are on a deadly path of destruction in the Northeast.
