Have you ever wanted to help, but didn’t know how to help. You didn’t know what to say. You didn’t know what to do. Everything you had to offer seemed so totally inadequate.

I bet there’s someone you really wish you could help right now. Someone is hurting, but you don’t know how to heal that hurt. Someone is struggling, but you don’t know how to fix it. But my sister, there’s one thing you have the power to do that can absolutely, undeniably, radically change everything for them. YOU CAN INTERCEDE FOR THEM.

We often use prayer as our last ditch effort when there’s nothing else we can do, but truthfully, prayer is the MOST we can do. Talking to the Father on the behalf of someone needing his divine touch … yes girl, that is powerful!

Here’s what you can do: YOU CAN CALL IN JESUS!

This is intercession. By definition it means to pray on behalf of someone else. It seems so small, but it is a holy act that unleashes divine power.

The enemy has been working hard to distract you from becoming an intercessor of God’s power, hasn’t he? He’s been trying to make you feel it’s a waste of time and never really matters. But, the enemy of your soul is a liar from Hell. He doesn’t want you to know of the impact of your ability to call Jesus in, but he has failed to keep you from hearing this today!

Within your Bible are 2 back to back stories of the impact of intercession.

First, the story of the faith of a Gentile Woman in Mark 7: 24-30: Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre. He didn’t want anyone to know which house he was staying in, but he couldn’t keep it a secret. Right away a woman who had heard about him came and fell at his feet. Her little girl was possessed by an evil spirit, and she begged him to cast out the demon from her daughter. Since she was a Gentile, born in Syrian Phoenicia, Jesus told her, “First, I should feed the children – my own family, the Jews. It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.” She replied, “That’s true, Lord, but even the dogs under the table are allowed to eat the scraps from the children’s plates.” “Good answer!” he said. “Now go home, for the demon has left your daughter.” And when she arrived home, she found her little girl lying quietly in bed, and the demon was gone.

I’ve always skimmed right over this encounter in my Bible because I couldn’t make sense of Jesus referring to someone as a dog. It seemed so harsh, and so not like my Jesus. But digging deeper, I’ve come to understand this wasn’t Jesus being insensitive, this was a recognition of this woman being an outsider and a display of Jesus responding to her request even while he was fully aware of her position.

In that day, Jews did not associate with Gentiles. They were considered unclean, unholy, unworthy people. A good Jew would have absolutely nothing to do with a Gentile. The Jews often called Gentiles dogs in a very derogatory way. To be called a dog was to be called a shameless and audacious woman, essentially the original B word used today.

Jesus is acknowledging what this woman thought of herself. She knew her position and yet she humbly came to Jesus with her request. JESUS HONORED THAT! It’s the same as you and I coming to Jesus, knowing we haven’t always gotten right, knowing our priorities have been out of line, knowing we have fallen far short of perfect, and saying, “Jesus, I know I don’t deserve your goodness, but I’m humbly asking anyway.”

Jesus is showing us it’s not about who we are, it’s about who HE IS. It doesn’t matter if I’ve been on the wrong side of the fence. It doesn’t matter if I’ve failed to get it right every time before. It doesn’t matter if I don’t know a single scripture, I don’t understand my Bible, I don’t know how to pray, or I’ve wandered away a long time ago and haven’t been able to find my way back to God … none of that matters. Jesus is still who he is. That never changes.

This woman’s humble ask in faith was INTERCESSION. The daughter couldn’t ask for herself, so the mother went to Jesus and asked. She knew she was unworthy. She knew the law prohibited her from even speaking to Jesus because of who she was. But she did it anyway, and Jesus responded.

In fact, his response to her faith-filled request acknowledging her position within a group of people who had rejected Jesus yet still needing his miraculous touch, is quite incredible. His response is, “Good answer.”

You’ve been wrong, but you still need Jesus. Good answer.

You’ve been running for a long time, but you still need Jesus. Good answer.

You’ve filled with questions and doubts, but you still need Jesus. Good answer.

You’ve been angry and distant, but you still need Jesus. Good answer.

And her daughter is healed because of her faith-filled intercession. She brought Jesus in and Jesus did what only he could do.

The second encounter immediately follows. Mark 7: 31-35: Jesus left Tyre and went up to Sidon before going back to the Sea of Galilee and the region of the Ten Towns. A deaf man with a speech impediment was brought to him, and the people begged Jesus to lay his hands on the man to heal him. Jesus led him away from the crowd so they could be alone. He put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then, spitting on his own fingers, he touched the man’s tongue. Looking up to heaven, he sighed and said, “Be opened!” Instantly the man could hear perfectly, and his tongue was freed so he could speak plainly.

This man’s miraculous healing came as a result of the people begging Jesus to lay his hands on him. This is intercession. It says nothing of the man seeking Jesus. It says nothing of the man having faith. It simply says THE PEOPLE brought him to Jesus and begged him to heal him … and he did!

They brought Jesus into this unchangeable situation and asked him to change it … and he did!

Girl, you have the power to bring Jesus into this!

But again, the enemy has been in your head telling you you should do more. You should fix this for them. You should have epic, life changing advice for them. You should research and come up with the best answer for them. And when you can’t … then there’s nothing you can do other than feel sorry for them and offer your pity. And to this, God says loud and clear, THEY DON’T NEED YOUR PITY, THEY NEED YOUR PRAYERS!

Intercede for them. You call in Jesus. You bring their need to the one who has the power to do something about this.

You are being called on as God’s girl to be an intercessor. You’re the one to bring this need to the Father. You’re the one to approach the throne and ask Jesus to get involved. You’re the one who needs to call him in!

This isn’t about you knowing what to do or what to say. This isn’t about you first cleaning yourself up and being righteous. This isn’t about you at all … this is about the one you know to call.

I’m calling Jesus. I will call Jesus on your behalf. I will tell him about your need. I will tell him about your hurt. I will tell him about your struggle. I will intercede for you.

I can’t fix this for you. I can’t make it better. But I know the One who can and I’m calling him in.

This is the power God has given his girls. Yes, his girls who have faithfully talked to him every morning for 20 years, AND his girls who haven’t talked to him a single time in over 20 years. Yes, his girls who can quote his word, AND his girls who have never opened his word. Yes, his girls who teach in the Church, AND his girls who want nothing to do with another Church. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US.

You have access to Jesus and you can call him in, no matter what you’ve done and where you are … because again, this isn’t about you being good enough, this is all about Jesus. He is always good enough. His power is always strong enough. His reach is always far enough.

Will you call in Jesus today? Will you intercede for someone else and ask Jesus to get involved?

It’s not the least you can do, it’s the absolute MOST you can do!

One of my favorite songs is “I Speak Jesus”. This is my song for calling in Jesus.

I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
Over every heart and every mind
‘Cause I know there is peace within Your presence
I speak Jesus
I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
‘Til every dark addiction starts to break
Declaring there is hope and there is freedom
I speak Jesus
I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
Over fear and all anxiety
To every soul held captive by depression
I speak Jesus
‘Cause Your name is power
Your name is healing
Your name is life
Break every stronghold
Shine through the shadows
Burn like a fire
Shout Jesus from the mountains
Jesus in the streets
Jesus in the darkness, over every enemy
Jesus for my family
I speak the holy name
Jesus
