Welcome to the "Go For Broke" Podcast! "Go For Broke," what does it stand for?

Well, how I came up with this name is quite interesting. I have these stamps on my desk that I bought from the post office about two years ago. It says "Go For Broke, Japanese American soldiers of World War II." My grandpa was in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, an army unit of all Japanese Americans from Hawaii. Their motto was "go for broke." It originated from gambler slang in Hawaii, signifying risking everything for a chance to win big. The 442nd Regiment adopted it, needing to put everything on the line to win big — fighting to win two wars: against Germans in Europe and racial prejudice in America.

Many of these men were in concentration camps before fighting in the war. They became one of the most decorated units in U.S. military history, earning over 18,000 individual decorations. This history inspired our podcast topic, "Go For Broke," related to winning in business.

We've broken down "BROKE" into an acronym. Let's dive right into it.

The B is for bold. Entrepreneurs need bold attitudes, clear mindsets, striking actions, and grand visions. Dreaming big and aiming high makes you stands out in a positive and notable way, leaving a lasting impression — think BHAG (big, hairy, audacious goals). When it doesn't scare you, it ain't big enough. That's how you turn a $100.00 business into a $100,000.00 business or a $100,000.00 business into a million-dollar business—by being bold in mindset and actions.

R stands for resilience. Entrepreneurs face challenges and setbacks. It's normal. That's why bouncing back from failures is crucial—don't freak out when they come along; accept mistakes as an opportunity, and learn from them. Resilience is you being comfortable with you being uncomfortable.

O
is for opportunity. Always be on the lookout for new opportunities and seize moments to grow, expand, and to be better. Be cautious because those opportunities don't last forever, and you must know when to jump on them. Be open-minded, yet discerning. Sometimes the best opportunity for you to have is the one you are currently in.

K stands for knowledge. Successful entrepreneurs are lifelong learners, seeking knowledge through reading, listening, networking, and/or experiences. Knowledge is power. Especially, when you have a mindset that refuses to let fear hold you back.

Lastly, E is for execution. Turning ideas into reality requires clear-cut actions. Without execution, ideas alone won't lead to successes. Ideas without actions won't get you anywhere except holding a notebook of all the great ideas you've collected.

Ultimately, "Go For Broke" is about believing in yourself, trusting your instincts, and pursuing your dreams courageously. Being broke in business doesn't mean financial scarcity; it's about having the mindset, attitude, and qualities to thrive.
