In rugby union: So the Super Rugby Pacific semifinal sees the Blues hosting the Brumbies at Eden Park at 7.05pm on Friday night, and in an all-kiwi clash in Wellington that is, the Hurricanes against the Chiefs on Saturday at 4.35pm.
The big question is – can the Brumbies crash the party in New Zealand?
In rugby league: The Storm were cruising at 34-16 in the 66th minute before Dane Gagai crossed for Newcastle and Enari Tuala reeled in a smart Jackson Hastings chip with four minutes to play, and it was game on.
The Storm hung on for a 36-28 win against a gallant bunch of Knights in an entertaining battle at AAMI Park.
In Football: There are 24 teams involved in the EURO 2024, which kicks off this weekend in Germany, all with squads of 26 men, drawn mostly from players in one of Europe's top 10 leagues, although some ply their trade in Saudi Arabia or the MLS, and others in England’s second-tier Championship or Italy's Serie B.
In Boxing: Controversial boxer Ryan Garcia was arrested for felony vandalism at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills on Saturday afternoon according to TMZ Sports.
Law enforcement sources say the American boxer was arrested and taken into custody after he allegedly damaged property at the hotel, including his room and the hallway.
The fighter was seemingly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, complied with authorities and went peacefully to the Beverly Hills Jail shortly before 4pm Pacific time.
Eyewitnesses add, they saw nearly a dozen cop cars outside the hotel, responding to the incident.
TMZ Sports further reported that hotel staff called the Police on Wednesday night for a welfare check on Garcia, after a member of his family called reception saying he was in some kind of distress.
In SportsBiz: Thirty-eight States and the District of Columbia offer some form of legalized sports betting in the United States of America.
Revenues generated from State-sanctioned sports betting - which didn’t exist outside of Nevada until May 2018, when the US Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act; betting has climbed from US$135Million in 2017 to US$10.9Billion last year, according to the American Gaming Association.
Much of the betting industry’s growth, and misconduct has been fueled by mobile betting, which is available in 30 states plus DC.
And in the NBA Finals: The Boston Celtics do battle with the Dallas Mavericks in Game 02 of the NBA Finals at TD Garden in Boston again later today.
Finally, only in the USA: Unconfirmed reports say that Caitlin Clark won’t be – won’t be part of the United States women’s national basketball team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
The news of Clark’s omission, which is not official yet, has exploded on social media and comes after her fantastic performance on Friday night.
She equaled a WNBA rookie record with seven 3-pointers for the Indiana Fever in front of the largest WNBA crowd in 17 years of 20,333 fans in Washington DC.
Minnesota Lynx coach, Cheryl Reeve, who was critical during the pre-season of the WNBA’s heavy focus on Clark, is coaching Team USA this summer, and reportedly wants to go with a veteran roster, according to reports.
