The Shaivas were the Chola dynasty's prominent patrons, which is why there was an extensive construction of Shiva idols during that time. The Chola era is particularly renowned for its bronze sculptures, especially the magnificent idols of Nataraja. The last ruler of the third Chola dynasty was Emperor Rajendra, who reigned from 1246 AD to 1279 AD. He was known to involve the crown prince in ruling the empire during his lifetime.
