When starting to learn te reo, continue learning te reo, or drive the learning of te reo for a group of people, whether it be in your whare with your whānau or in your workplace with hoa mahi, it’s worth making a plan - whakamahere reo.

- Who am I teaching?
- When am I learning?
- How much time do I have to commit to learning?
- What resources am I using to help me in my learning?
- What kind of learner am I?
- How do I like to learn?
- Audio - audiobooks, podcasts, waiata, reo irirangi Māori
- Visual - Whakaata Māori ondemand, YouTube channels, flashcards, apps
- Textbooks, books, e-books
- Practice speaking with others and yourself
- Base your learning around activities you and your group do and/or places you and your group frequent.
- Activity - Eating dinner
- Preparation - collect and learn vocab and sentences relating to that activity, make sure they are visible and easy to read and follow. Move onto breakfast the next week.
- Location - living room
- Preparation - collect and learn vocab and sentences relating to that area, make sure they are visible and easy to read and follow. Move onto the kitchen next week.
