Even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, those working in the health care field were found to be more susceptible to depression, anxiety, and job dissatisfaction, which can lead to adverse outcomes for healthcare workers as well as the patients and communities they serve. Some experts increasingly regard suicide as an “occupational hazard” of practicing medicine or nursing. We talk about the Resiliency & Well-being Center recently launched by the GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences to educate health-care workers, trainees, and staff about stress management, provide behavioral health services, and restructure SMHS’ wellness initiatives from top to bottom. Our guest is Lorenzo Norris, MD, the center’s medical director and Chief Wellness Officer for the GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences, GW Medical Faculty Associates, and GWU Hospital. ◘ Related content GW Resiliency & Well-being Center https://rwc.smhs.gwu.edu/ Article: GW Launches Resiliency & Well-Being Center https://rwc.smhs.gwu.edu/news/gw-launches-resiliency-well-being-center-0 KFF/The Washington Post Frontline Health Care Workers Survey https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/poll-finding/kff-washington-post-health-care-workers/ Medical burnout: Breaking bad https://www.aamc.org/news-insights/medical-burnout-breaking-bad ◘ Transcript https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/transcript-helping-health-care-workers-cope-burnout-gw-office-of/?published=t ◘ This podcast features the song “Follow Your Dreams” (freemusicarchive.org/music/Scott_Ho…ur_Dreams_1918) by Scott Holmes, available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial (01https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/) license. ◘ Disclaimer: The content and information shared in GW Integrative Medicine is for educational purposes only and should not be taken as medical advice.
