Andy, who formerly went by the alias "Anonymous" on this podcast, comes back to discuss with me the cultural relevance of Jesus and the Bible in our modern world. I have talked with a lot of people about two of my greatest passions in life - Jesus and the Bible - over the decades, but in the past month an unusually significant number of people have approached me with a lot of serious life questions about both, seemingly out of the blue. And since I can't ignore patterns or breaks in typical patterns, which I have shared in many episodes of this podcast, I went to a trusted friend who leads a large Christian congregation, a man whom I have grown to deeply trust over the years, to have a discussion about this very matter to see if perhaps this anomaly is isolated with me or if I am witnessing a cultural shift.
Andy is an interesting pastor, namely in the fact that he doesn't pass judgment upon those whom he meets, he rarely meets a stranger, loves the Bible, loves people, and has had the patience to not only believe in me when seemingly almost no one else did and when I was near the end of myself, but to have my back and remain my friend for 11 years now, which is no small feat unto itself because I can be a major unintentional PITA because of the jagged edge that life has carved into me through an exceedingly painful road I would never have chosen for myself to travel, but would travel again in a heartbeat. He is a man who has earned my sincere respect and there are not a lot of men about whom I can state that.
I did a timelapse with Andy in episodes 122 and 123 that, while only two episodes in length, spanned almost a year of his life through an exceedingly difficult period of his life and leadership of a rapidly growing church. I strongly recommend you jump back and listen to a Christian leader handling hardship in an entirely vulnerable and admirable manner in these two episodes.
