As a child, Marianne dreamed of becoming a writer when she grew up. She studied English and creative writing and got a job as a journalist after she graduated. But then she realized that it was not working for her. So she then decided to take up nursing for she wanted a career where she will be able to help people. Her very first job was in a long-term care facility, then as her career bloomed, she became a case manager and it was during one of her shift at work in that job where she met the couple that becomes the characters on her first novel, “Blue Hydrangeas, an Alzheimer's Love Story”. With her novel in place, it eventually morphed into her current project which is Alzauthors, a global community of writers who are writing about all dementia from their personal experience.

After Marianne’s novel was published, she found herself living her own story for her stepfather got diagnosed with dementia. She was the one responsible for him, for he signed her to be his health care proxy and power of attorney. With the trust that was given to her, she took care of his legal, medical and financial needs and at the same time dealt with her mother’s health problems and decline.

With her juggling her career, family and becoming a caregiver, she shared that once the doctor confirms the dementia diagnosis, the next step that needs to be done is to visit the attorney's office and start the paperwork. The legal matter needs to be taken care of right away because once the person is deemed no longer competent then they can't sign any documents.
