Inspired by how the comfortable familiarity of nostalgia can tap into the imagination, DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ’s remix interweaves sparkling disco, synth funk, and nostalgic Y2K pop into her own signature blend. Sabrina meshes her whimsical sound with the tongue-in-cheek nature of the original. Not much is known about the London-based producer, whose bio claims a cat named Salem is uploading music from an old colonial Dutch house somewhere in 1996. Still, she’s remained prolific over the course of her brief career so far, already releasing eight tracks in 2024. Still smoldering from his recent No. 1 Beatport release with fellow Brazilian producer Maz, VXSION’s take on “Days of the Week” melds the bass-heavy house of his home country with Afro house-inspired rhythms to create a warm but festival-ready remix. The lush piano stabs and robust percussion fill the mix and elevate it to meet VXSION’s paradisiacal, big room cravings. No stranger to hearing his music around the globe, VXSION’s productions regularly appear during the peak-time moments of the Keinemusik crew’s DJ sets in 2024. Written in Los Angeles, “Days of the Week” followed the wrap of Flight Facilities’ Trouble Tour, which concluded with dual weekend performances at Coachella’s coveted Yuma Tent earlier this year. The duo, who were steeped in Southern California spirit, indulged in a playful commentary on stereotypical LA, with nods to the city’s guilty pleasures like overpriced Erewhon smoothies, plastic surgery, and influencer culture. “What started as a joke … has turned into one of our guiltiest pleasures,” Flight Facilities says about “Days of the Week.” The track was born during a 3-hour session with Tacoma, Washington-based rock band Enumclaw frontman Aramis Johnson, who facetiously raps cheeky lyrics over Flight Facilities’ too-good-to-be-true acid house production. In the music video for the track IG/TikTok influencer and dancer Gilly Moya feels the groove of the track in the iconic LA spots: Catch & The Beverly Hills Hotel, the Church for Scientology & Muscle Beach, and Runyon Canyon.
