Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement, the Kremlin reported on Friday.
According to the Russian state media, the agreement “covers all areas, including defense, counterterrorism, energy, finance, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology.” Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali noted that the document consists of 47 articles. In the copy shared on the Kremlin’s website, one article states that Russia and Iran agree not to provide military or other assistance to any aggressor against either party.
Under the new agreement, Russian-Iranian military cooperation encompasses “a wide range of issues,” including the exchange of delegations, port calls by military ships and vessels, and military personnel training.
Since its signing in 2001, an accord on core principles, automatically renewed every five years, has guided Russian-Iraian relations and cooperation.
