Because people are complicated and it takes real commitment, respect and a deep kind of love, on the part of both people in the relationship. In many cases in the beginning we don't truly get to know the person that we say we will spend our lives with. As time goes on and we go through various troubles and situations in life it can become complicated if two people respond totally different and fall apart instead of together
Normally relationships fail because of deliberate betrayal, misunderstandings, ego, distrust, negative opinions, opaqueness, extra/illegal affairs..... If someone acts like anyone of these things can never be a Soul Mate.
