Divorce... Should unhappy couples stay married for their kids sake?
Manage episode 291357568 series 2901197
This week we tackle some of the lies couples tell themselves to justify their decision to get divorced. We explore what happens when cultural norms of "self love" and being "authentic" and "true to yourself" seep into a marriage and spouses stop fighting for their marriage and even justify the decision to get a divorce because they believe it's better for their kids not to see them fighting, then for them to grow up in a house with both a mother and father present.

- Can a divorced couple still "love each other" or get divorced because it's "best for the kids".
- What's best for kids, is for their parents to stop being selfish, start fighting for their marriage and see their covenant commitment through... because kids need two parents and God is very explicit that most cases for divorce is sin.
- God created family first (with Adam and Eve) and designed society to be built on the foundation of family and when families start breaking down, society starts breaking down.
- "Them Before Us" book by Katie Faust and Stacie Manning (Guests on episode 051) - Step-fathers and Step-mothers are doing heroes work, stepping in the gap to provide the parental role that their biological parents have abdicated.
- 90% of sexual & infidelity cases for divorce, it's the man doing that.
- 50% of kids in America, go to bed without a dad - Men / Fathers have abdicated their responsibilities and failed their kids and families.
- No matter how much of a rockstar a single-mom is, God did not design her to fill the masculine role or dad role in that kids life.
- There are increasingly more woman opting to have a kid with no intention of marrying or keeping the man in her life - They have bought into the lie that they don't need a man in their life. A decision like this is incredibly selfish and doesn't take into account what is best for their kid they plan on having.
- Even in the LGBTQ community, there are those who advocate for kids to have two parents... because they see the value and they experienced that and saw the value of it first hand in the house they grew up in.
- We want to see biological fathers take back their God-given responsibility of leading their family and being present... which will lead into our next episode.
- While divorce is increasingly more common and accepted in our culture, the commonly sited statistic that "half of all marriages end in divorce" is not an accurate statistic.
