Ton Knipscheer of the European Co-Packers Association talks to Tim Sykes about the reasons why contract manufacturing is more and more central to the strategies of not just retailer's private label products, but also to delivering the innovation to brands. We also discuss the need for dialogue between the co-packing sector and the wider packaging-FMCG world, particularly in order to ensure alignment around sustainability objectives that contract packers will have an increasing role in delivering.
The 2024 ECPA Conference (11th November) and Sustainable Packaging Summit (12-13 November) will be co-located in Amsterdam on consecutive days, with the aim of supporting this cross-pollination. To visit the ECPA event, contact membership@ecpacopacking.com. Meanwhile, podcast listeners can redeem a 10% discount on Sustainable Packaging Summit tickets by visiting https://www.packagingsummit.earth/2024/ and using the code PEPOD10 at checkout.

In October 2024 Plastics Recyclers Europe issued a statement warning that "The increasing lack of demand for recyclates produced in Europe, the reduced investments in domestic recycling, and the increase in imports of recyclates from outside the EU have been suffocating the European plastics recycling industry in the last few years. These issues are feeding the existing recession on the market - driving many recycling companies out of business in 2023, with further closures happening or planned in the course of 2024."
