Smith reflects on the death of his friend; early pioneer and prominent politician James Sharp. He discusses the Savior's resurrection in the New Testament, as well as the teachings of the Book of Mormon prophet Alma the Younger on that topic. President Smith's words here show that the doctrine of the resurrection had been on the prophet's mind for many years, and serves as a notable connection for us today with what he would eventually reveal in section 138 of the Doctrine and Covenants.
