One of the most valuable things you can achieve as a retail leader is to earn the respect of those around you. But it’s easier said than done, right?
Respect entails more than just people following your orders. It isn’t something that instantly comes with your leadership role or title. In this episode, we'll explore the Law of Respect to learn what it takes to truly give and receive it. You don't want to miss out on this!
Key Highlights:
[00:01] Let’s talk about the Law of Respect
[01:04] How important respect is as a retail leader
[02:10] Steve’s perspective on leadership
[02:51] What does respect truly mean?
[05:11] Understanding who you are and your value system first
[09:45] How to gain respect in a retail environment
[11:31] The 3 types of respect every leader must understand
[20:04] 3 ways to show respect in the retail environment
Notable Quotes:

  • As a retail leader in such a fast-paced environment, we must garner respect and trust quickly, or else we’ll lose.
  • Leadership is all about influence and direction. It's moving yourself first, and then your team forward toward a desired goal.
  • Respect means that you accept somebody for who they are, even though they're different from you and you don't agree with them.
  • Respect doesn't have to come naturally. Sometimes you actually have to learn respect.
  • We want to move forward so quickly, but we don't really understand what's important to us.
  • When we start to think about the law of respect, we must be strong and worthy of respect, if we want other people to respect us.
  • We define respect in this fashion - we recognize the inherent worth, and value of the other person, and honor that inherent worthiness, in our words, our actions, and our behaviors.
  • You are in your leadership role for a reason. So respect the chair, respect the position of being a leader.
