In this episode I speak with Dr. Adjoa Smalls-Mantey. Adjoa currently practices Emergency Psychiatry in New York City. She also is an author and has a background in viral immunology. Adjoa tells us the difference between Psychiatry and Psychology and how they treat patients differently and how their fields interact with each other.
Adjoa tells us what it was like working in a Psychiatric emergency room during and after the pandemic. She tells us about how we are now going through a mental health pandemic and how she helps people going through a mental health crisis. She tells us about the differences in street drug use that happened during and after the pandemic and why people use these to self medicate.
Adjoe tells us how loneliness and isolation are becoming so normal right now and how they are fueling the mental health crisis. She tells us how she helps patients who are experiencing these things. Adjoa describes depression, anxiety, and panic attacks and how they arise in people. She gives us great advice on how to deal with these issues and how to prevent them in the future.
