Part 1:
We talk with Alex Sammon, Politics writer for Slate.com.
We discuss the state of the Democratic party, and what needs to be done to make it more responsive to voters. There should be a "changing of the guard", specifically to feature younger representatives. We also discuss Nancy Pelosi's relationship with Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, and how decisions are made to appoint committee chairs and members. The idea of pardoning Trump has been raised by a Democrat, and we discuss this issue.
Part 2:
We talk with Simon Lazarus, former Associate Director for Domestic Policy, under Jimmy Carter.
We discuss the various proposals to change or eliminate the Electoral College in favor of more direct elections. Mr. Lazarus discusses how this is likely not feasible, since this would mean amending the Constitution. Instead, he proposes the elimination of the "winner take all electoral votes" in those states that have this pattern. Instead, he proposes that all electoral votes be counted for whichever candidate has them. This is true only for a few states now. We also discuss how candidates should clearly define their 'enemies' during the campaigns to more clearly delineate these for the voters.
