Join Jax on her journey as the lead plaintiff of the first Civil Rights case in U.S. history (Armendariz & Chinook Center v. City of Colorado Springs, et al., 2023) to provide undeniable evidence that federal and local law enforcement unconstitutionally spied on Black Lives Matter social justice protestors for their political speech & actions. Jax, aka Jacqueline Armendariz Unzueta, also invites other Colorado Springs, CO community voices to discuss the case and relevant local current events because knowledge is power & cultura cura.
Jax appeared on Democracy Now! to discuss her case when it was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Colorado on Aug. 1, 2023. She taps into her career experience in journalism, public service, community organizing and political campaigns to tell the deeply personal story of this case from her perspective, as well as unpack the complexities (and injustices) of the legal system. Once a reporter covering the court and night cops beats, no one can tell her own story better than her as she and her co-plaintiff, community organizing nonprofit Chinook Center, demand police accountability via the courts.
