Tyana Arviso and Lapita Arviso both Diné artists and photographers are based in the Colorado high desert. They share a unique bond as a mother and daughter pair supporting and inspiring each other in their creative journey, sharing the language of photography. They currently live in Cortez, Colorado but travel the region extensively finding inspiration for their photographs. Lapita was practicing landscape and commercial photography when her daughter Tyana became interested and picked up her own camera. They both speak about the desire to create and achieve that flow state of an artist in sharing a part of themselves in their work. They also talk about the importance of finding the right lighting and mood in a landscape which create the rich images of their work. As her career evolved Tyana worked with the Georgia O’Keefe Museum creating cards of the Southwest desert landscape and also with Banana Republic where she provides exclusive framed images for their website. As a freelance photographer Tyana has worked with YouTube, Teva and Stetson in addition to Chronicle Books which has just published a set of notecards called “Desert Dreams” available at Barnes and Noble. Both Tyana together with her mother Lapita have offered photographic workshops in New Mexico, and you can find the upcoming schedule on their websites. If you are lucky enough to catch up with them on one of their photographic journeys you may also meet Tyana’s father and brother who have been the constant, patient and loving support encouraging their artistic journeys.
