At an abandoned dig site in the scorching desert, Pazrael and Krumpet discover a scene of unspeakable horror
- hundreds of corpses reaching toward a mysterious tablet buried at the center of an ancient crater. But when they retrieve their prize, the dead refuse to rest.
Racing through an army of reanimated corpses, they barely escape with the artifact.
Meanwhile, in the distant Haven of Kitaar, a man driven to murder by the tablet's sister piece struggles against its corrupting influence. As he seeks redemption in a local church, a priest's attempt to help leads to violence - proving that some evils are beyond salvation.
