OUR 3rd of 3 Halloween Episodes! The Sheela Na Gig Podcast celebrates women in history whose strength, talent, and perseverance went largely (or completely) unrecognized or perhaps someone you don't yet know about, but should! We are dedicated to celebrating women—one per episode—who we lovingly & reverently call “our Sheelas. Helen Duncan was born on November 25, 1897. She was a Scottish medium best known as the last person to be imprisoned under the Witchcraft Act 1735, she is therefore sometimes referred to as “The Last Witch”. She developed from clairvoyant to physical medium by offering séances in which she claimed to be able to permit the spirits of recently deceased persons to materialize, by emitting ectoplasm from her mouth. She was a controversial figure, but is still revered by many spiritualists today. This Sheela persevered and despite prosecution she never backed down.
