1 Breaking Down The Beliefs of Chad & Lori Vallow Daybell Part 2 The Doom & Gloom CORE TENETS OF THEIR RELIGION 33:05
Breaking Down The Beliefs of Chad & Lori Vallow Daybell Part 2 The Doom & Gloom CORE TENETS OF THEIR RELIGION Once Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow believed they were chosen by God , their doctrine evolved into a radical, self-serving theology that justified their crimes . In this episode, we break down the specific tenets of their belief system , from Chad’s doomsday timelines predicting the world would end in July 2020 to the twisted reincarnation doctrine known as “multiple mortal probations.” Their obsession with end-times prophecy was fueled by LDS tent-city survivalist movements , where members believed they would be called to gather in safe zones before the world collapsed . But Chad and Lori took it further, convincing themselves that some souls were no longer human at all . Through their bizarre “light vs. dark” ranking system , they determined who was “worthy” to move forward—and who had become a zombie that needed to be eliminated. We also explore their belief in divine powers , including Lori’s claim that she was immortal and Chad’s so-called spiritual portal . These doctrines weren’t just harmless religious speculation —they were the foundation of a doomsday cult that led to multiple murders . How did Chad and Lori justify their actions as part of their divine mission? And what happens when a prophecy fails but the believers refuse to accept it? Alright, let’s really break this one down because it’s a case that’ll make your blood boil. A Louisiana mother, 24-year-old Summer Buxton, just got sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the overdose death of her 2-year-old son, Keynan Jay Buxton. And while eight years might sound like a decent chunk of time, her family is not having it. They were expecting something much harsher—like 20 years—and they’re making it very clear that they think justice was barely served. So, what exactly happened? Back on May 30, 2023, authorities found little Keynan unresponsive in a motel room. Now, kids get into things all the time, but when the toxicology report came back, it painted a truly horrifying picture. This toddler had meth, fentanyl, and acetyl fentanyl in his system. That’s not just an accidental exposure—that’s a fatal amount of drugs for a fully grown adult, let alone a baby who probably still needed help getting his shoes on the right feet. During the sentencing, Buxton’s sister, who goes by Lyons, didn’t hold back. She gave an emotional and furious victim impact statement, calling for the maximum penalty. In her eyes, Summer showed zero remorse—not a shred of guilt, not a moment of reflection. Instead, according to Lyons, Summer was more focused on keeping her OnlyFans account running than mourning the loss of her son. And just when you think it couldn’t get any more absurd, Lyons also claimed that Summer was bragging about her “sugar daddy” footing the bill for her legal defense. Imagine being in that situation—your child is gone, your family is shattered, and instead of taking accountability, you’re flexing about who’s paying your lawyer fees. Buxton’s mother, Tammie Abshire, echoed the outrage. She said the family fully expected a 20-year sentence, not a measly eight. And then Lyons dropped a brutal comparison: “How do you give someone eight years for the death of her child… but you can get ten years for animal abuse?” And honestly, she’s got a point. In some states, if you so much as harm a police dog, you’re looking at more time behind bars than Summer got for what happened to her son. Let that sink in. Now, Buxton’s defense team tried their best to spin the narrative. Their argument? This was all a tragic accident, and Summer was suffering from a severe drug addiction that completely clouded her judgment. They claimed she wasn’t in her right mind, that manslaughter was too harsh, and that the charge should’ve been negligent homicide instead. But the DA wasn’t buying it. They refused to lower the charge, but in the end, they still cut a deal that her attorneys called “fair and reasonable.” Meanwhile, let’s not forget about Keynan’s father, Adrian Higgins. He was arrested too and ended up with a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter. So, if you’re keeping score—Mom got eight years, Dad got ten. And yet, the child is still gone, and the family is left wondering if justice was really served. And just when you think the story is over, there’s more. Buxton was actually arrested again in January 2024 at a motel in Mississippi (because apparently, motels are a recurring theme in her life). And if that wasn’t enough, another woman connected to this case was arrested too—her court date is coming up on March 3. Who she is and what exactly her role was is still unclear, but it seems like this tangled mess of a case isn’t done unraveling just yet. So, what do we take away from this? At the heart of it, this is an absolute tragedy. A 2-year-old lost his life in a situation that never should have happened. A child that young doesn’t just stumble upon fentanyl and meth on his own—he had to be in an environment where that was accessible . And that’s what makes this so enraging. Some people will argue that eight years is enough—after all, Summer was an addict, and addiction is a disease. But then you have the other side, the people who see this as a complete failure of justice. They see a mother who should have been protecting her child but instead put him in an environment where he didn’t stand a chance. And now, she’ll serve a sentence that, realistically, could be cut even shorter with good behavior. At the end of the day, no amount of prison time is bringing Keynan back. But the question that lingers is: Did the punishment fit the crime? Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Is Kevin Franke a Victim or an Accomplice Of Ruby Franke, FBI Behavioral Expert Speaks Could Kevin Franke have stopped the nightmare unfolding under his own roof, or was he just another victim caught in Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt’s web of control? That’s the big question as we dig into the twisted dynamics of this case. Sure, he wasn’t the one tying up his children or starving them, but he also wasn’t stepping in when things spiraled into a full-blown horror show. Retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke joins us to break down the psychology of willful blindness, groupthink, and how belief systems can be weaponized. Was Kevin truly unaware of what was happening, or was he just too deep in the cult-like mindset to act? Bob Motta Unpacks the Evidence That Could Destroy Donna Adelson Did Donna Adelson really think she could charm her way out of this one? The 75-year-old grandmother took the stand, painting herself as a frail victim trapped in a jail full of violent criminals—completely ignoring the part where she allegedly plotted an escape to Vietnam, a country with no U.S. extradition. Oops. The prosecution, however, had a slightly different take, armed with jailhouse calls and enough red flags to decorate a parade. So, what went so horribly wrong for Donna in court? Defense Attorney Bob Motta joins the discussion, breaking down her baffling decision to testify at her own bond hearing, the eye-rolling complaints about her jail conditions, and the ticking time bomb of her family's crumbling defense. And if Donna thought prison life was uncomfortable before, just wait until she realizes how solid the case against her is. With no direct evidence linking her to the hit, is there still enough to lock her up for good? And more importantly—if Donna goes down, will Charlie finally crack? #DonnaAdelson #TrueCrime #HiddenKillers #DefenseDiaries #LegalDrama #MurderForHire #CrimeAnalysis Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Bryan Kohberger’s Autism Defense A Game-Changer or Desperate Move In this explosive deep dive into the Bryan Kohberger case, we unravel the latest legal twists that could change everything. His defense team has now introduced an autism spectrum disorder argument, claiming it should exempt him from the death penalty. But will this strategy hold up in court? We break down the legal implications, expert opinions, and whether this move is a groundbreaking legal defense or a last-ditch effort to spare his life. Meanwhile, Judge Steven Hippler has finally had enough of the secrecy surrounding this case, slamming both the defense and prosecution for excessive sealed filings. With new court orders prioritizing transparency, we explore what this means for the public, the jury pool, and the integrity of the trial itself. What was hidden in these filings, and why did the judge say "enough is enough"? And finally, the courtroom battles rage on over what the jury will actually hear. The defense wants to ban terms like "psychopath" and "sociopath," while prosecutors fight to bring up a 2014 incident from Kohberger’s past. Plus, the ongoing fight over the presence of victims’ families in the courtroom and accusations that the prosecution is withholding evidence. This case is shaping up to be one of the most intense legal showdowns in recent history—don’t miss this critical update. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Will Kohberger's Alleged Autism Spectrum Disorder Save Him From A Death Sentence? What happens when the strongest defense strategy isn’t proving innocence, but making the jury question everything they thought they knew? Bryan Kohberger’s legal team is running out of moves, and now, they’re playing a psychological game—one that’s less about evidence and more about creating doubt. With all motions denied, they have no choice but to humanize Kohberger, challenge forensic science, and maybe even throw autism spectrum disorder into the mix as a mitigating factor. Could claiming autism spectrum disorder really be a life-or-death strategy? Bryan Kohberger's defense team is throwing a curveball, suggesting that ASD should factor into whether he faces the death penalty. But here’s the problem—autism isn’t a get-out-of-execution-free card. In fact, this argument could backfire spectacularly. Former prosecutor Eric Faddis joins to break down the legal implications. Will the jury see this as a legitimate mitigation factor, or will it only reinforce their suspicions? And if the defense is leaning into this strategy, does that mean they’re running out of other options? More importantly, if he didn’t do it… why would this even matter? #BryanKohberger #IdahoMurders #TrueCrime #DeathPenalty #AutismDefense #LegalStrategy #CrimeAnalysis Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Did Karen Read And Her Defense Get 'Too Close', Ret FBI Jennifer Coffindaffer Wonders Is Karen Read’s defense team in hot water, or is this just another courtroom circus act? The latest hearing didn’t just put the spotlight on evidence—it exposed a legal brawl over ethics, credibility, and potential misconduct. The prosecution is claiming Read’s defense team played fast and loose with financial ties to expert witnesses, possibly influencing testimony. But is this a legitimate concern or just an attempt to shake the case? Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer dives into the tangled web of legal maneuvering, pointing to signed agreements, financial records, and trial transcripts that might just tell a different story. From surprise courtroom tactics to eyebrow-raising funding sources, this case is turning into a masterclass on what NOT to do in high-profile litigation. And let’s not forget the burning question: If this defense team is as seasoned and reputable as they claim, why would they risk getting caught in a mess like this? Was it arrogance, desperation, or just an epic miscalculation? #KarenRead #LegalDrama #CourtroomChaos #TrueCrimePodcast #FBIAnalysis #DefenseStrategy #HiddenKillers Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? The Law of Lori Exoneration or Delusion Lori Vallow Daybell says she will be exonerated. Not maybe. Not possibly. She is certain. And she’s saying this from behind bars, awaiting trial for the murder of her fourth husband, while her current husband sits on death row. If there’s one thing Lori has always had, it’s confidence—whether it’s in her bizarre religious beliefs, her devotion to Chad Daybell, or her ability to deny reality even when it's staring her in the face. This week, she sat down with NBC’s Keith Morrison for what’s being described as an “extensive and often combative” interview. And if there’s anyone who can handle combative, it’s Keith Morrison. The full special is set to air on 'Dateline,' where Lori, dressed in an orange jumpsuit and purple handcuffs, tells the world exactly what she wants them to believe. She’s going to be exonerated. Not only that—she’s seen the future, and in that future, she and Chad are free. She claims Jesus himself showed her this vision when she was in heaven. Now, most people who claim to see heaven aren’t sitting in a jail cell convicted of murdering their own children, but then again, Lori has never been like most people. Lori was sentenced to life in prison in 2023 for the murders of her two youngest children, 7-year-old JJ Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, as well as for the murder of Chad Daybell’s first wife, Tammy Daybell. The details of those crimes were horrifying—JJ and Tylee’s bodies were found buried on Chad’s Idaho property, their remains showing the unthinkable levels of brutality they endured. Tammy’s death, originally ruled natural, was later determined to be a homicide. Chad was convicted of the same crimes. His fate, however, was different. In 2024, he was sentenced to death. The man Lori still refers to as her eternal husband is now waiting for his execution date while she sits in an Arizona jail, awaiting trial for yet another murder—that of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow. Charles had long suspected Lori’s descent into religious extremism was dangerous. He tried to get help, to warn people. Then one day, in July 2019, he was shot dead by Lori’s brother, Alex Cox, who conveniently died later that same year, taking any potential confessions with him. Lori, undeterred by any of this, is still talking. In the upcoming 'Dateline' special, she’s not just giving her side—she’s doubling down. It’s not a confession, and it’s certainly not remorse. It’s Lori being Lori. Believing that no matter what happens, she’s special. She’s chosen. The rules don’t apply to her. The special also features interviews with key figures in the case, including Rexburg police detective Ray Hermosillo, Madison County Sheriff Ron Ball, Madison County prosecutor Rob Wood, retired FBI agent Douglas Hart, and journalist Nate Eaton, who has covered the case from the beginning. But the voice that carries the most weight belongs to Lori’s eldest son, Colby Ryan. Colby, the only surviving child of Lori’s, has watched as the mother he once knew disappeared into a twisted world of doomsday prophecies and murder. And in his interview, he doesn’t hold back. He describes how the way his sister was treated, even after her death, was so depraved it changed the way he sees people altogether. And he’s right—because what happened to Tylee wasn’t just a murder. It was something that defies humanity. This will be the seventh 'Dateline' episode dedicated to Lori and Chad, and if history is any indication, it won’t be the last. The fascination with this case isn’t just about crime—it’s about belief. About how two people could convince themselves they were on some divine mission while leaving behind a trail of destruction. For those who still can’t wrap their heads around how any of this happened, 'Dateline' might provide some answers—or at least another look into the mind of a woman who remains convinced she’s destined for something greater than a prison cell. 'Law of the land' says she’s guilty. 'Law of Lori' says she’s getting out. #LoriVallowDaybell #Dateline #TrueCrime #ChadDaybell Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? The unforeseen deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, shocked the world when their bodies were discovered in their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home on February 26, 2025. Authorities responded to a welfare check requested by a maintenance worker who hadn’t heard from the couple in weeks. Upon arrival, law enforcement found Hackman in the mudroom near his cane, as if he had fallen. Arakawa was located in the bathroom near a space heater, with an open prescription bottle and scattered pills on the countertop. One of their dogs was found deceased in a crate close to Arakawa, while two other dogs were found alive in different areas of the house. Friends and neighbors had noticed a decline in Hackman’s health in the months leading up to his death. Once known for riding his bike around the neighborhood, he had become increasingly reclusive. At 95, his frailty had become apparent, and Arakawa, a 65-year-old classical pianist, had also retreated from public life. Authorities classified the deaths as "suspicious" due to the circumstances, but foul play was not suspected. Initial autopsy reports revealed no external trauma, and tests ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning. Data from Hackman’s pacemaker suggested his heart had stopped on February 17, meaning they had been dead for about nine days before being found. Speculation surrounded the case, with some questioning whether it could have been a "companion suicide," but experts doubted this, given that the couple was found in separate parts of the house. The presence of prescription medication near Arakawa and Hackman’s known heart condition led investigators to consider a medical event as the likely cause. The entertainment world responded with an outpouring of grief. John Travolta shared stories of Hackman’s humor and brilliance on the set of Get Shorty , while Morgan Freeman honored him at the 2025 Oscars, calling him one of the most generous performers he’d ever worked with. Hackman’s career spanned over four decades, earning him two Academy Awards for The French Connection and Unforgiven . His work in Bonnie and Clyde , The Conversation , and The Royal Tenenbaums cemented his status as one of Hollywood’s most revered actors. Though he retired from acting in 2004, he remained active in writing and personal pursuits. The investigation into the exact circumstances of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa’s deaths continues. Their passing leaves behind a legacy of artistic contributions and a community mourning the loss of two lives lived largely outside the Hollywood spotlight. #GeneHackman #BetsyArakawa #HollywoodLegend #UnsolvedMystery Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
