Dr. Andrew Fire won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2006 for the discovery of RNA interference (RNAi). Dr. Fire is the George D. Smith Professor in Molecular and Genetic Medicine, and Professor of Pathology and Genetics at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He received his AB degree in mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley. He received his PhD in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He did training at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England as a fellow. Prior to Stanford he was part of the scientific staff at the Carnegie Institution of Washington.
