It’s another special interview edition of the podcast this week, as I chat to Hannan Majid and Richard York. They are filmmakers through production company Rainbow Collective and they also run Films For Food, which is a great initiative that puts on free film screenings for those willing to donate goods to a London food bank. I had a fun chat with Hannan and Richard, covering the origins of Films For Food, their partnership with the East End Film Festival and the importance of socially conscious movies with awareness of today’s political landscape. We even found time to discuss the representation of race and gender in recent blockbusters like Wonder Woman and Black Panther. The next Films For Food event is tonight, Thursday 22nd March, at Hub 67 in Hackney Wick. The film being shown is documentary Belonging: The Truth Behind the Headlines, which tells the story of industrial disputes across three decades to examine the power dynamics in Britain. It’s a very worthy event, so get yourselves down there if you can.
