Just what the hell did they do to those sharks? Gali and Matt are heading to the Bargain Bin this week into the DEEPEST BLUEST, their hats like shark fins, as they swim through Renny Harlin's $80 million B-movie DEEP BLUE SEA (1999).

In a remote underwater facility, doctors Susan McCallister (Saffron Burrows) and Jim Whitlock (Stellan Skarsgaard) are conducting research on mako sharks to attempt to re-activate dormant human brain cells like those found in Alzheimer's disease patients. When the sharks' brains aren’t large enough to harvest enough of the protein compound, the doctors violate the Harvard Compact and utilise gene therapies to increase their brain mass. A larger brain means more protein. It also means smarter sharks. When one of them escapes the facility and attempts to attack a boat full of 90s douchebag teens, the project's financial backers send corporate executive Russell Franklin (Samuel L Jackson) to investigate. Dr Susan and a skeleton crew including shark wrangler and former smuggler Carter (Thomas Jane); Brooklyn’s finest engineering mind Tom (Michael Rappaport); and God-fearing, giant-crucifix-wearing side-story chef, Preacher (LL Cool J), will all find out the answer to life’s greatest riddle: exactly what an 8000-pound mako with a brain the size of a flat head V8 and no natural predators thinks about.

Gali is joined by Matt as he puts his case forward for Renny Harlin as action cinema's forgotten man, and decide where this film sits among cinema's greatest creature features. Join them, an annoying talking bird, some dastardly sharks, and Janice Soprano in this thick slab of 90s schlock.
