Power metal has been around since the 1970s, and most rockers at that time were unaware they were fans of this emerging subgenre of metal. The Profs unpack the origins of power metal, they attempt to define it, and they explain why it should be distinguished from prog metal, math metal, thrash and classic metal. The Profs discuss the historical, philosophical and mythological themes that are common in power metal. They also talk about why power metal became such a positive and unifying musical force in Europe and the U.S. in the eighties, nineties and today.
