EPISODE IN BRIEF

In today’s episode of Coaching Conversations,

Chris leads the discussion with the concept of powerful self-talk. It can truly help you achieve more in life and business.

Learn how mental endurance and toughness will nourish and create the “calloused mind’. An almost unstoppable strength that allows you to squeeze more out of your precious time.

If you are not wringing every opportunity from every week, Chris and Nick have some enlightening stories to inspire you to develop that resilient mind.

Enjoy another super-packed episode of motivation… devoted to seizing the day!

Time Code/Show Notes

0.26 Intro: Business coach experts Nick and Chris breakdown how powerful self talk can elevate your business success and general life satisfaction.

2.43 Chris quotes from David Goggin’s “Can’t Hurt Me”; the man that did Navy Seal training (“Hell Week”) not once, but three times! Sixty ultra-marathon events later, his life story talks about developing a ‘calloused mind’.

4.02 Self-talk that is positive will push you to strive for so much more. You must toughen your mindset so you don’t end up ‘playing the game small”

7.43 Ask yourself the hard questions. Are you doing enough? Are you squeezing the most from your days? Do you stop when it all becomes too hard or uncomfortable?

9.41 Step one is to learn to work to breaking point - a level of pain will always result in growth afterwards. You must go through friction to be challenged and then you’ll set a new benchmark; a new breaking point.

14.52 What if you could re-calculate a new breaking point? What if you don’t give up on the third try?

16.17 What if you condition yourself to endure the pain or the uncomfortable task? What then?

17.13 When you get to that breaking point and you sustain that level – then you need to focus on doing “one more rep”, “one more hour of hard work”, one more “round of interviewing” By pushing yourself to the next step, you are developing a calloused mind in the process and this will help you get that “one more rep/hour/interview’.

20.20 This is where powerful self-talk kicks in. It will give you the energy to keep moving, do not under-estimate the power of asking yourself what would “David Goggins’ say 😊

22.01 Stadiums full of screaming fans urge their heroes onto greatness. Positive self-talk is your number one fan. Just do one more rep. Tell yourself – ONE MORE. One More!

24.56 You can transform your mind to a calloused mind. You can work towards making it tough and develop resilient thinking.

28.20 Chris relates a personal story of how he worked towards a calloused mind while running a mountain track - and inadvertently inspired a complete stranger.

29.16 You need to find your own personal breaking point and push through it to find “one more rep”. Because what if, on the other side of that rep, was a brand new YOU?

33.45 Like to know more about how you can develop a calloused mind and build this powerful resilience? Reach out to ask@upcoach.com.au for more information on today’s podcast.

EPISODE SUMMARY

Are you achieving what you’re capable of?

Have you settled into patterns of negative self-talk whereby at the first sign of pain or discomfort – you drop and run?

It’s time to revaluate your breaking point and commit to pushing through it.

Incremental goals are wonderful; “one more rep” is a powerful metaphor for one more step in the process towards real achievement – and it’s often a place you’re never been before.

Remember, there will always be `sacrifices’ when you trigger the power to move to the next level. Developing the calloused mind is a practised skill and anybody can do it – you just have to make a start.
