Kelly Rowan Burrell’s smile can light up any room! Kelly is intelligent with a servant’s heart mixed in. Her wit, demeanor, and energy are apparent with every word shared with This Humana Life Podcast team. By day, she works in the data governance area of Humana, the co-founder of the weekly ‘Inspire Positivity’ call and the Communication Lead for the IMPACT Network Resource Group. By night, she is a wife, mother, vocalist, speaker, CEO, and the list goes on and on! We think she is ‘Superwomen.’ In this episode, Kelly explains ‘what’ data governance means and the extremely important work her department is accomplishing to support our members. About Kelly: Kelly Rowan Burrell is a native of Owensboro, Kentucky and she moved to Louisville in 1999 to attend the University of Louisville as one of two Martin Luther King Endowment of Peace Award recipients. Kelly is a Senior Enterprise Data Governance Professional at Humana Inc., where she has worked for 15 years. She serves as an adjunct facilitator for Enterprise Talent Management, teaching The Road to Success. She is also honored to serve as Communications Co-Chair for IMPACT, Humana’s African American Network Resource Group. Kelly is most proud of co-founding Inspire Positivity, a group that serves to encourage associates all over the country and abroad to maintain an optimistic perspective and grow a culture of kindness and gratitude that expands to our communities. Outside of Humana, Kelly is the CEO of Renaissance Woman & Co., a business designed to position her to use her gifts and talents to meet the needs of others. Kelly is a singer, speaker, choreographer, writer, a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant, and Executive Admin for author, speaker and serial entrepreneur, Nachand Trabue. Kelly is the spouse of Jeremy Burrell, who serves the community as a Reserve Jefferson County Sheriff deputy. The Rowan-Burrell’s have four children: son Lorenzo (18), and three daughters Ajani (12), Hayden (6) and Katherine Joy (4). They are members at Southeast Christian Church in Jeffersonville Indiana, where Kelly serves as a vocalist on the Worship Team. Kelly loves books, quotes, proverbs and scripture. One of her favorite quotes is by Theodore Roosevelt: “It is not the critic who counts: Not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by the dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming. But who does actually strive to do the deeds, who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory or defeat.”
