Barcelona. Venice. Paris. Amsterdam. Bali. Machu Picchu. The Great Barrier Reef. These are all popular tourist destinations - maybe even TOO popular. How has overtourism impacted a city? Is overtourism a pro or a con?
During Leah’s most recent travels to the Netherlands, she hung out with friends that lived outside of the popular, Amsterdam. A large discussion was had when they told her about the minor changes being done to prevent more overtourism in the city. This led to learning and hearing more from locals, articles, etc. about the impacts of what tourism can do for the people living there.
What are your thoughts of overtourism while traveling, and what feasible suggestion(s) do you have to help combat the negative effects of it?
