Former QB1, now Graduate Assistant, Brady White joined GoTigers247 on this episode of Off the Boards.

Brady White was QB1 at Memphis from 2018-2020 and during his three seasons led the Tigers to some of the most successful years in program history. After leaving Memphis following the 2020 season, Brady was invited to rookie minicamp with the Tennessee Titans, ultimately ending up being drafted to the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL. But, like a lot of cerebral players, he has transitioned to a new career path in coaching college football. Brady shares with GT247 his mindset on whether or not he will continue to play and why he chose to start his coaching career now. Brady believes he is not done playing football just yet, but he also believes that coaching has been written in the stars for him since he stepped foot on a college campus. Coming to Memphis solidified the desire to coach, and so when an opportunity to become a graduate assistant at his alma mater opened up, the choice was clear. Brady shares how he reached out to Head Coach Ryan Silverfield, and details the conversation when he let Ryan know he was ready to join his staff. Brady describes his love for football and how being around the sport in any capacity is important to him. He knew that during the off-season with the USFL he wanted to continue to be able to contribute to the game, and believed that coming to Memphis was the best opportunity for him to jumpstart his career in coaching.

In the second segment, Brady goes into great detail about why he chose Memphis to start his coaching career. With Brady's numerous connections that he has established over the years at Arizona State and Memphis he could have made a few phone calls and probably joined a plethora of staffs. Brady shares why, ultimately, his confidence in Ryan Silverfield, head coaching acumen and his love for the city of Memphis brought him back here. Brady describes Memphis as a second home. He loves this city and the University and believes transferring to Memphis in 2018 was the best decision he has made. He believes coming back to Memphis feels right, and appreciates the love he and his family has received from the city and Tiger fans. Brady transitions to talk about his role as a GA for the offense, and how he will be spending most of his time in the wide receiver room with Coach David Glidden. We described his role with the wide receivers as a "cheat code" for the offense because of his ability to share what the QB1, specifically Seth Henigan, is looking for from them. While it would seem obvious that Brady would work with the quarterbacks, putting Brady in the wide receiver room seems to be a strategic move to help communication between two of the major position groups in the offense.

We end the show talking about how much the landscape of college football has changed since his entry into the college game in 2017. Brady talks about how college football programs need to adapt to these changes or risk getting left behind. This discussion prompts a conversation around the investments that the city of Memphis has made into the program through the Memphis Rising program and the renovations to the Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Brady is proud to see where the program is now and believes that the best is yet to come for Tiger football and Tiger fans.
