When you hear about someone in prison, what typically goes through your head? Maybe it’s, “Good, I’m sure they deserve it,” or maybe it’s more, “What if they’re unfairly there?” Or, maybe you make no assumptions at all. Which is the correct Christian perspective on criminal justice? That’s what we’re discussing today when Matt Martens joins Patrick on the pod! Matt is a trial lawyer, a former federal prosecutor, a legal ethics professor, and an award-winning author of “Reforming Criminal Justice: A Christian Proposal.” He starts by explaining why Christians should care about the criminal justice system in America and provides examples of why the current system is broken. He shares how the Bible offers several guideposts for loving our neighbors as it relates to this area. Plus, is the death penalty biblical? What’s the difference between Christian and pagan justice? How should Christians seek true, biblical reform of the criminal justice system? Listen now!
